Help - Scales Broken? PANIC!

Quote  |  Reply

OK since I started on this site in April I have been steadily losing weight. Woohoo. I only usually weigh once a week, on mondays, and I step on the scales once and that's it.

For some reason today I stepped on twice. The reading was different. Then I stepped on again. It was different again! Now I have no idea what I weigh. I thought I don't look as slim as my so-called weight should look. I'm really panicing now

Are they electrostatic scales or spring scales - both wear out.  I bet yours are electrostatic.  If you can't afford new ones then take the average of three.  Then go to Walmart and stand on a new one to see if the results are similar - if so - no need to buy new ones.  Obviously be wearing the same things when you weigh yourself and try to to this is short order.

They're the ones you step on to turn them on so... electrostatic? Maybe they are just worn out, I've had them about 2 years now. Just feel like I've been congratulating myself all these weeks and maybe for nothing!

How much difference between readings?  If it is a pound or so, you should be ok.  If it is 5 pounds or more.... something is definitely wrong.  2 years is not long enough to have to have a new scale.  Batteries maybe.

You probably HAVE lost!

I agree - and it's so funny - my scales have recently started to +.4 pounds on the first weigh and then level out - they are fine... but 3 weighs is a good idea.

Batteries - a VERY good point - I didn't think about when it's time to change the batteries!

i would say use a tape measure as a means of double checking

I hate scales.  I figure it must be atmospheric pressure, or that my scale is twenty years old.  I can't really weigh that much?  But I'm afraid to buy a new one in case it says I weigh more lol.

YUP!!!!

My scale reported 5 pound difference (higher!) in one day today.  This seems quite impossible based on calories alone since that is ~17500 calories.  I imagine it is water retention (my weight has dropped rapidly since counting calories about 2 weeks ago, and I think this is my first real plateau, since I am hitting between 1800-2000 calories average.)
