HELP!!!! Seriously craving for desserts and baked goods!!

Quote  |  Reply

Hello I've been on diet for a few days, and I am having such a hard time controlling my cravings for desserts adn baked goods. I know sugary foods is a big no-no, and simple carbohydrates (eg. plain WHITE bread) is bad for weight loss. (actually can anyone explain why sugar and carbs is bad for weight loss???) But this sweet tooth is not letting me go... All day I think about is FOOD. and possibly worse, DESSERTS. CINNAMON BUNS. APPLE PIES. BLUEBERRY DANISH. BROWNIES. COOKIES. ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

I feel awful. and seriously deprived :(. I have been eating enough, and I am 100% sure it's NOT because of hunger that I crave such food but because of... simply sweet tooth i guess. Moreover I have a histroy of binge eating disorder, (in fact it's not fully cured, I just binged last night on ice cream) I know if I start eating one, i can't stop and will continue to eat two, three, four, five.... etc. For the past few months I gained 30 pounds because of binging at night on practically I can find, and it usually started because of my sweet tooth. I just wanted to eat something sweet, and when I sabotage it, I lose all will power and binge on.

Please... can anyone help me? What do u do to diminish these evil cravings?

apples, that is my binge saver. they are sweet and crunchy. after awhile i want them more then candy. plus one apple fills me up pretty good so i dont want to keep going. and keep as many sweet and things out of the house that you can.

as for binge eatting, from what i have learned that is something that normally gets trigered by something else, does it not? i have read a few things on it latly since i have heard about people doing it on this site. i have never personally been one to binge per-say. at least not in that sense. but i wish you the best. i am sure this is a hard fight for you. but you can do it, it may take longer then you what you like and get hard but you can break it. i honestly believe that people are stronger then they i know. even when the world is falling down around them they always keep going to the not?

again i wish you the best and if you need anyone to talk to feel free to add me.

:-)

Don't deprive yourself until you just can't stand it because that will bring on a binge for sure ... and all that is after you may have eaten everything else in the house trying to avoid the cookie or brownie.

I suggest getting some brownie mix and preparing them using unsweetened applesauce in place of the oil in the recipe.

Then take one or two, eat one (it's still not great but much lower fat and cals made with applesauce), wrap and "hide" the other in the fridge, and take the rest of them to work to leave in the break-room, or give to the next-door neighbor, or pack in the kids' lunches.

If your craving apple pie I have a quick fix. =]

Dice an apple with or without skin (your preferance)

Sprinkle on cinnimon and about a teaspoon of sugar

Microwave for 45 -60 seconds.

It tastes amazing and its less than 100 calories. I hope this helps!

Oh and another thing. For brownies theres this thing called VitaBrownies. Im not sure if you've ever heard of VitaMuffins but the brownies are the same brand. Theyre only 100cals each and are PACKED full of vitamins and minerals.

FRUIT FRUIT FRUIT- I USED TO BINGE ON SO MUCH SWEETS.

I KNOW CINNAMON BUNS WERE MY WEAKNESS AND THEN I FREAKED OUT AT THE AMOUNT OF FAT IN ONE CINNABON!-27 -30 GMS!!!!!!!YIKES
Well....yesterday, I had a "cheat" day.  I have been doing calorie count for over 2 months, and have been sooooo good.  I had to get school snacks yesterday at Costco, and I bought some of their bakery cookies.  They looked so good, so I decided that I would treat myself.....and so I did! I had 2 big yummy chocolate chip cookies!  Then I felt sick to my stomach, not only cuz I haven't had that kind of junk in my body in months, but they were almost 300 cals EACH!  But then  I decided that everyonce in a while, we all need to treat ourselves.  We can't NOT live.  I am sure that as long as I workout harder today and keep my calories lower today that I will be fine, and I am also not going to feel guilty.  I only went over my total cals burned by less than 400 calories.  I am sure that my body is saying "YUP, THAT IS JUST WHAT WE NEEDED TO GET THRU".  So for everyone out there, have a "cheat" day and don't feel guilty.  I mean don't go overboard, and eat a WHOLE cheesecake, but everything in moderation, and  you will feel better, and maybe the next time you feel the urge, you won't binge out, you will just have a little dessert, or whatever and feel good about it, like you probably deserve to!
what you need to do is buy the deep chocolate vitamuffins and put one in the microwave for 30 seconds. it is so good. ooey gooey hot chocolate muffin with melting chocolate chips. maybe add some ff cool whip. so good.

i do the apple thing too,  with bannanas and pears too,  i also pour half a cup of soy milk on top before i put it in the micro,  i like it cause its warm and filling,  breakfest or dessert.

Hopefully I won't get smacked too hard for saying this. =)

I have just begun my fitness journey after being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in June. That being said I knew I would never give up my sweets completely. I'm a birthday cake for breakfast kind of girl.

However, I've learned to be satisfied with less. I stopped eating dessert everyday and I make sure that the sweets that I want are worth the price ie having to adjust what I eat to keep my blood sugar more stable, having to work out more to keep my calories in line with my goals etc.

If you can find substitutes for the things that you really enjoy then have them. If however you just have to have goodies, feel free to plan for them in your day in moderation.

I will never be a food is evil person. I honestly believe that there are better choices that can be made and that sometimes the best choice is to have the high calorie, high fat no nutritional value bit of fluff in moderation and move on without guilt.

Two words: Glenny's Brownies!

They are UNBELIEVEABLY delicious (i feel guilty for eating them sometimes) and they have only 100 calories, about 4 grams of fat but 7 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein! You can order them online but they also have them at health food stores (I'm not sure if you can get them from the grocery store yet?). I get mine from the Vitamin Shoppe. You can also get them online at glennys.com

Stevia is also a good and healthy sweetner (some people complain about the strange afterrtaste, but I'm ok with it)

I used to crave sweets all the time (esp. after large meals!) but i noticed that after i started consistently weight training, my body automatically starts to crave protein and i usually get satisfied just with that and vegetables. However, this didn't happen overnight.

Something that also helped me with my craving for sweets was a product called ThreeLac. I read in many different books (including Kevin Treadeau's The Weight Loss Cure) that cravings for sweets is a sign of Candida(yeast) overgrowth in the body. This helped me immensely! No, I'm not promoting the product. I'm just passing along what worked for me that's all ;)

Finally:

HANG IN THERE! It has only been a few days! Establishing good eating habits can take a while so don't be impatient or beat yourself up. Once you have your eating habits under control you will be able to treat yourself once in a while without being a slave to your cravings!

Good luck! Your patience, discipline and consistency will pay off!

Sara

The first 2 weeks are rough!

Hang on! Do something besides eat for fun....anything at all legal! Go for a walk around the block in the evening before you retire to help stave off the cravings.

I always had horrible sweet cravings around my period. I know a lot of it was hormonal because now that I am older and through with that, the cravings have subsided. My first 2 weeks on 1200 calories, I had horrid headaches, too. Your body is just getting rid of "stuff." You have to focus on those skinny goal jeans. Buy a pair and keep them around so when you have a craving, you can try them on and see how close you are to wearing them. That also helped me psychologically to get past cravings. The other suggestions for low cal foods help, but if you have my kind of cravings, you need more motivation! Looking good does it for me. Try it!

Hello, I get like that every once in a while. I usually tell my Hubby "I want something sweet". I get my fix from No Pudge Brownies. You can make a pan or an individual brownie. I prefer the individual. All you need is 2 Tbs of the mix and 1Tbs of either non fat yogurt or applesauce. Mix in a cup and microwave for a minute. They have a variety of flavors, but I like Original. The box usually lasts me a couple of months by doing it that way. I also have a great orange creamsicle type dessert recipe. If you'd like it you can email or PM me. It's very easy to make too.

If you can get through the first couple of weeks, you will find yourself craving-free.   Try just saying "no for now."  Maybe later.  And maybe later, you will have some fruit instead.  watermelon is a life saver when you are craving sweets.

I've been doing this for 8 weeks and I really have lost the carby-sweets cravings almost completely.   Every once in a while, when I feel a twinge, I just say to myself that I will get something later.  But usually, I forget about it.
i too have a sweet tooth. i find when i drink soda, i crave sweets more. i switched to water and the sweet tooth diminished.    when i need something sweet , i just have a small bite (one square of chocolate, not the whole bar) and i also have  lifesaver mints , having one little lifesaver will stop me from having a handful of cookies.    =)
I usually have a sweet tooth but this past week was TERRIBLE. I think it's because it was my TOM; but I like cutting up apples and microwaving them for a couple of minutes which makes them nice and warm and sweet!
I find that allowing myself something sweet, particularly at night, helps stave off the binges A LOT.  The other thing I've noticed is that, I'm less tempted to keep going if what I have is HOT rather than cold.  Not sure why, but it works for me.  My favorite treats are: low-sugar maple oatmeal, diet hot chocolate, a vita brownie or chocolate muffin nuked in the microwave for a few seconds, a granny smith apple heated up with Kashi Go Lean sprinkled on top, etc.

Two things work for me depending on the situation. For one I try to tell myself that I can eat that if I want so that I do not feel deprived of it but I get some water and tell myself that I will get that snack later and start doing something else and I forget about it. The other thing that works for me is finding a low calorie sweet like chips ahoy 100 calorie packs and smelling them first then eating them since smelling them satisfys the same center which the craving came from. After a while you just do not want as much sweets anymore it is just hard getting there.

I'm wayyy worse than you! I need to have a baked dessert every night! However, I realized that 1 packet of regular instant oatmeal or 1/3 cup (100 calories) and 1 tsp of chocolate chips, or butternut ships or white chocolate chips or caramel chips (hershey's makes them) just adds 20 calories and you have a 120 hot dessert that is filling and sooo satisfying! You are only consuming 20 bad calories because regular oatmeal with a packet of splenda is just 103 calories!

This is my dessert everynight and I still keep losing weight! (and i dont even excersise!!! which i know i should)
