i am in good shape and at a healthy weight, but i don't know how to get rid of my huge thighs! it kind of sucks because i would like to wear minni skirts and shorts withought constantly thinking about my above the knee legs.

i already run-- about three miles a day... is there any excercizes i could do that don't require equipment that would tone and slim my thighs?

What is your height? Your weight? Surpringsly, or not...most people think they are larger than they are.

Cannot help you until you are more specific.

Large, muscular thighs are veyr common in people who cycle, btw. I am a marathoner..and I KNOW i have muscular legs but do NOT consider them 'huge'. Can you show us a pic or give a better example?

thnx.

i'm sure you are going to get a bunch of posts from ppl being like "you can't slim down one part of your body"....but my suggestion would be to start doing weights....

it seems counterintuitive - but i dropped from 112 - 105ish pounds by starting to do leg weights - ...if you don't have a gym membership you can buy a set of 12-20 pound weights i think they're like 10 dollars you can get them pretty inexpensive and they will work wonders....i use machine but start doing squats lunges etc.....

also...maybe try increasing your endurance.....long distance running focuses on different core muscles.

I believe you can focus on specific muscle groups for sure - I am blessed enough to belong to a gym and I gave myself a treat and got myself a personal trainer for 2 months. Worth every single cent in my opinion.

My knowledge is growing exponentially and I am targetting certain groups. Each exercise that I do works different parts of the body. I also hardly use any equip except for a few things.

Its all lunges, kicks, sidekkicks, using your own body weight to tone you up in the spots you want.

One of the members posted this awhile ago and I also found it really informative, have a look. http://exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html - Exercise & Muscle Directory

Hope it helps!

You can target muscle groups, you just can't preferentially burn fat from that area by targeting them - that's the misconception people have.

So overall fat loss is going to eventually slim the areas you want, it can just take time. And developing the muscle that lies underneath can help the area look more 'shapely' and defined. So definitely lifting weights (heavy, relative to you, so that you are able to do 8-12 reps with good form, but not past that) is going to help a lot (plus, lifting is a great thing for fat loss).

Verrrry true.

I used to have this problem and blamed it largely on bad genes. No matter how much I worked out, focusing mainly on my lower body, nothing happened. The only time my thighs got smaller was when I cut back on sweets and fat. I did cardio and weight training and my thighs are much much more toned now. I'm not sure if it's just me but I observed that girls who like sweets and desserts tend to be bottom heavy.

Not true said the 'apple'! Any extra calories be it sweets, fat or whatever goes that glorious spot right on my gut.

My thighs are my proportionately bigger than the rest of my body.  They will never be model slender but they are smaller than they used to be and very strong.  Plyometrics, sprints, squats, split squats, burpees are all things I've done without equipment that has helped me shape and define my thighs.

thanks everybody! i started to do some lunges and squats and other exercizes (untell i can buy some weights) and MAN-- my butt is sore haha so i think that is a good thing :)
