I am going out to a sushi bar tonight. Any suggestions to stay safe?

Maguro (sp?) rolls!  They are my favorite and happen to be the most healthy of all rolls (imo) because of a very high protein content and no creamy ingredients.  I get them with brown rice, but you can get them without rice at all (or take it off) for a lower calorie/carb count.  Or sashimi of any kind :D

I looked up some sushi rolls and for a 100g roll it varies between 130-180 calories (for tuna) so sushi bars usually cut 100g rolls into 4-5 pieces. Just thought i would mention that in case your going for a lot of sushi rather than their other products :)

Wow! You are so lucky! I rarely have sushi. For me, I usually get vegetarian roll (cucumber, carrots) because I'm a vegetarian. Don't get anything TEMPURA. My goodness, it tastes awfully yummy but its fried food. Like tempura vegetables sounds healthy, but its just fried vegetables. Ask for things without the mayo or whatever cream they put in. Thats what I do.

Sashimi.  Wasabi and pickled ginger are spicy things that will make you think you are full more quickly.

Well, I never listen to this advice myself because I love sushi, but you're supposed to avoid anything with the words "tempura", "spicy" or "crunchy."  Also, pretty sure eel's a pretty high calorie seafood.  Of course, rolls that contain eel, are spicy, crunchy, and deep-fried are my favorite. :-P

Sashimi is your best bet for sure! Sashimi is just plain raw fish and it is ABSOLUTELY delicious - I promise! I just hope you like fish! ha ha! The miso soup is also a nice appetizer to order, especially when it's cold out! There is something another appetizer that I like that is boiled spinach with a bit of soy sauce & bonito (tuna) flakes - very good and nutritious too!

As much as you may not want to hear this... I don't think you should order any rolls because even the ones with no fish, tend to have a whole bunch of empty calories, thanks to the white rice that has NO nutritional value!

Indulge in some seaweed - which is extremely healthy - have grilled meats only (and ask for teriyaki sauce on the side) & if they bring you a green salad, make sure there is NO dressing because japanese dressing is super sugary & fatty!

My favorite Sashimi Picks =

- SAKE (Salmon)

- UNAGI (Eel)

- SABA (mackerel)

- ESCOLAR (white tuna)

**Oh I could go on because they are all my favorites! ha ha!** Enjoy - I am jealous!

Stay away from baked rolls. I don't think it's "sushi" anyway. Nigiri or sashimi are good things. If you do want rolls split one with people you are going with. Eel and avocado are high in calories.

Tempura/crunchy = deep fried.

Spicy sauce = mayonnaise

baked = mayonnaise sauce

Miso soup is low in calories, and tastes good. :)

I got sushi last night and it was amazing!~

I started off with Miso Soup and then had some Tuna Sashimi that was drizzled with onion-soy vinagrette, salmon Nigiri which I ended up not eating much of the rice underneath, and I got a roll that had shrimp, crab, and cucumber in it drizzled with sweet eel sauce. And a glass of wine. I was stuffed but I didnt break my calorie bank :) Success!
