i've decided i want to tone up instead of lose weight (it took a while, i know, but i'm here now!) i have a friend who's like 5'2'' and 120 lbs- but she's so toned that she looks really skinny.
but do you HAVE to eat more cals? it seems like you would gain fat not muscle if you ate more. and you should eat lots of protein too, right? and also, how often should i work out a week, for how long, and what should i be doing?
i'm starting school in a couple days, so i have a twice weekly gym class (40 minutes) and i'll have basketball practice too. what should i be doing on top of all that?
what if i went on a run 3x a week (1 mile) and also did 30 minutes of pilates/yoga every day. would that work?
thanks- i really appreciate it.
btw i'm 14 5'8'' and 120ish lbs

anybody???
I was in the same position as you are. I found that lifting free weights gave me a lot of definition (in addition to your cardio). You will probably be hungrier when lifting and lean protein is always a good choice.
Uhhh...You're dangerously underweight. Work on gaining before you do any toning, or you'll end up in the hospital
umm i'm actually not :) i have so much fat its unbelievable :D (i'm about 120lbs *give or take a few* and i have almost 30 lbs of FAT!)
and anyways when u gain muscle...u gain weight, so i'll be a little heavier but i'll look better
any tips???

Eat at maintenance instead of over, and you shouldn't gain too much, and you'll slowly see improvement.
There are a lot of different workout regimes. What I find best is to mix things up every four weeks. For example, I'll do four weeks of 3 days a week (1 day chest and triceps, 1 day back and biceps, and 1 day of shoulders and legs). Then I'll change things up.
