Help...Having trouble eating 2100 calories a day!

Quote  |  Reply

I am having a hard time accepting that I need to be consuming about 2100 calories a day in order to reach my target weight by September.  My problem is that I think I need to eat less to loose weight.  Today for example I consumed about 1500 cal. and burned about 1300-1600. Any advice???

To determine the correct calories figure your basal metabolic rate this way

Female - 655 + (4.3 X your weight) + (4.6x your height in inches) - (4.7 x your age)

=basal metabolic rate (BMR)  (calories you burn a day without exercise)

Take BMR and multiply by  1.2 if sedentary (or 1.4 for moderately active or 1.7 for extremely active. )

This gives you how many calories you should eat a day to lose without your body going into shock !!!!

I'm short so mine came out to 1500.

Hope this helps.

For men

66 + (6.2 x height) + (12.7 X height) - (6.8X age) = BMR

Then times 1.2 for sedentary or 1.4 for moderately active.

I didn't finish my post to you.

Once you find your BMR and multiply by the 1.2 to include calories burned through activity.  Take that number and take away 250 to 300 calories. That is how many you should eat a day.

If you eat 250 calories a day less than your BMR and burn 250 calories a day exercising then you will lose a pound a week.

Mine comes out at 1360. the first time caloire count did it is told me 2100 too. Then I redid it and it gave me 1350 close to the 160 my nutriionist gave me.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I am a new mwmber, I was reading a your post and you mention that your body will go into shock if you dont eat the propper amount of ccalories.  This scale told me to take in 2100 calories, and there isno way that I will loose weight if I eat that much.  I am consuming around 1300 calories a day, and I think this is fine for me.  However you have me scared, exactly what happens if your body goes into shock?

Faye

I am sorry. I didn't literally mean go into shock. But what happens is it starts to think it is in starvation mode and it conserves and holds on to the calories and you don't lose.

For me about 1500 calories is good. I don't get too hungry and I can lose.

The easiest way to look at it is if you decrease your calories by 250 a day from what you used to eat and exercise 250 calories off a day (by say walking 2.5 miles) then on average you will lose one pound a week. As supposedly a pound is 3500 calories or a 500 calorie times 7 days in a week is one pound.

So if you can eat 250 calories less a day and exercise off 250 calories worth everyday you will lose a pound a week .

If you watch 'The biggest Loser' on TV they find if you cut the calories below about 1200 your body fights back and your weight lose slows or stops. Don't go too low !

If you can follow my calculations in my previous posting that should show you exactly how many to consume for your height, age and activity level.

I am 5 foot 2, age 52 and moderately active and I think mine came out at 1360 calories a day .

When I used the calorie count scale it told me 2100 the first time. I redid it and it told me 1350 which is close to the 1360 my nutritionist calculated for me.

Hope this helps and welcome to the group !
