Help with unhealthy snacks, please?
My fiancee keeps boxes of pop-tarts around the house, along with cookies and other nasty, diet destroying things. My sweet tooth is absolutely screaming for a cinnamon sugar pop-tart, and I know if I open one pouch, I'll eat both yummy pastries tucked inside.
I've gotten better at eating smaller portions than he does, of dinner and foods, and what not, but the snacks around the place are killing me.
How do I keep from digging into those pop-tarts? anyone?

First thing that comes to mind for me is keep them where you can't reach them... ie. top shelf of the cupboard. maybe i'm just short, but it's really easy for me to forget things are there if thats where they're kept.
Then keep some healthy alternatives around for yourself so you have something to combat your own munchies and you don't resort to your fiancee's snacks.

this is a little flipped around, but i get really annoyed when my hubby eats my nutritious food as a midnight snack. he'll just be in the kitchen at night munching away on my high-fiber cereal and high-protein bars. i just want to tell him to eat junk and leave my healthier food alone so it'll be there when i need it - like for breakfast. i've started hiding my stuff on the "good" plates that we don't use very often in the buffet table cupboard. he's never looking for those specific items, just something to snack on. my point being, could you ask your fiancee to hide his snacks from you? maybe in his closet or trunk or something? for YOU???
How about just asking your fiance to stop buying junk? Or to keep it somewhere else? A little support and co-operation would go a long way.
You could keep some low calorie cereal on hand for munching instead. There are quite a few that have 100 calories a serving and that are nice to eat dry.

He lives on that stuff : P. I wish he would eat healthier, but he says he can't eat vegetables or other things and still feel full. A bunch of protien bars might help though. I'd ask him to keep that stuff out of my sight, but he's very bad about putting anything away, let alone snacks.
Cereal is a good idea, but i eat cereal for breakfast every morning, and I don't want to get sick of it while doing the low-cal thing.
There must be something I can do though, even if I have to hide the junk myself.

Well- I've been watching what I eat for the past month and have lost 13 pounds- What I'm doing though is not depriving myself! I allow myself on the weekends to still think before I eat BUT if I have really, really been craving something during the week- then I will have it on the weekends. So- if you could just keep telling yourself- there's only so long until Saturday....keep a count down- then when the day gets there- have your treat but really savor it. And if you only want one in the pouch- then take the other out and wrap it in a sandwhich bag- it will keep until next week. I've been yo-yoing for most of my almost 40 years and granted, I've only been at this new "me" for the past month- but this time- I have a really good feeling that this will work. But if you still feel guilty- maybe just take an extra half hour walk:). I also read a few years back in Woman's World that this woman lost a lot of weight by taking one day a week and not counting calories, carbs etc and she still lost weight- it kind of tricks your body- cause when you are restricting your calories- eventually your body says "Hey? What are you doing? " and it goes into starvation mode and holds onto the weight- but if you pick one day of the week- then your body kind of relaxes and says, " Oh, ok- so you aren't going to starve" and releases the weight. Does that make sense? Just remember- it isn't going to happen overnight.....one step at a time.....
Oh, fluffydragon, what a dilemma, and I don't see a solution besides stepped-up willpower, hypnosis, lobotomy, etc.:):). The sitch is kind of reversed around here, because it's my big strong husband who is a quivering spineless jellyfish in front of a plate of fresh oatmeal cookies or a loaf of cinnamon bread. He has asked that I just not bake anything wicked, because he just knows he'll fall on it like a wolf if he smells it. Ironically, if I'm mad at him, I'll bake something fabulous just to torture him:):)...but this isn't really helping you, is it? Try this: go buy a few quarts of Splenda-sweetened fruit juice (cranberry, grape, apple, etc.; Old Orchard Healthy Balance is the brand. One cup---29 calories! Guzzle that stuff, and maybe it'll get that sweet itch scratched. I won't even suggest changing his habits...sooooo not happening! Men and their food---I've learned to stay out of the way!
How about sending the junk food to work with him and have him keep it
there. Get it out of the house? That was something I did
here. For whatever reason our freezer grew an abundance of pizza
rolls.... so I packaged them all up for individual servings and sent
them to work with him for lunch and they slowly disappeared without me
eating them =)

hey fluffydragon, i hear you and can relate. i spend my days in a gas station/convenience store, and one of the best money makers is junk food, soooooo we have lots! chips, candy bars, ice cream bars, it is very difficult for me!! some days i loose it completely, break down, & eat something bad. but other days i am stronger, & don't even think about the stuff.
just takes lots of willpower & it helps me to try to get distracted. i found this websight yesterday & signed on, & i think comunicating with people that are in the same situation as i am in, will help me out bunches. i also find a good cup of hot tea sweetened with splenda helps the sweet tooth. i prepare the tea & get out my crocheting, or a book. that is most helpful. i have found that if you get those severe cravings and can hold them off for 10 minutes they normally go away.
keep up the good work. have a great day

hi, maybe you could give the Quaker Rice Cakes a try. They have improved so much, that even a sweet's junkie like me eat's them. Right now I got my stasch off snacks hidden in my home office. Chocolate Crunch, Peanut Butter/Chocolate Chip and Cinnamon Apple. And that's only three off the once offered.
If you want a poptart (200 calories each) open the package, take one
out, then put the other far away and eat the one. That has helped me
just be aware of how many servings I'm eating--and a package of
poptarts is TWO servings.

Eat one pop tart and throw the other one in the garbage IMMEDIATELY. Yeah, you're wasting food, but don't force yourself to eat something just because it's there or just because you opened it already. Best advice though is to keep the junk out of the house. I have a 4 year old & I condition him from now to eat healthy, but I still have to keep some goodies for him once in awhile. I've just gotten so used to eating good low-cal/low-fat snacks, that snacking has never been a problem for me. Now put a plate of steak with mash potatoes in front of me and its a different story.
Ugh, I used to eat poptarts for breakfast all the time. And as a kid, I didn't think about it ... one package is one serving, right? Lol, apparently not ... 400 calories plus milk or OJ for breakfast 2-5 days a week. Ouch.
I know this may sound a little weird, but when I feel like eating junk food or something I just look at myself in the mirror while I'm eating. This makes me not want to eat the junk food! :D hahaha. I don't know if it work for everyone though.
hi ive just just joined and i think that you should throw them away. he will learn to either eat away from you or eat healthily. Also could any one give me a tip on willpower as i live with four other people so it's so dificult. I also hate dry or sweet things. Thankyou, Tigerxx
