Help! Waking up and eating!

Quote  |  Reply

Lately it seems like I've been waking up 2-3 hours into sleeping and having strong desires to eat.  Sometimes I can deviate it by brushing my teeth and going back to bed, but because I have to pass the kitchen before I get to the bathroom, it's hard to stay away sometimes. And it seems like sometimes because I'm so tired, I don't have the desire to cook anything and I grab for whatever is easiest...which isn't always the healthiest.  Last night I ate pistachios, pineapple, and half a brownie....which is honestly better than what I get othertimes.  So I was wondering if there are any other tricks at avoiding eating in the middle of the night?  I don't usually go to bed hungry, because most of the time I eat maybe an hour before bed.  Are there any tricks to make it through the whole night without waking up?  I hardly drink caffeine.

According to Allie/Jillian from the Biggest Loser, if you are hungry in the middle of the night it's because your metabloism is "kicking butt"!  I wake up hungry in the middle of the night and the fridge is impossible to pass up b/c I am heating a baby bottle.  I learned to cut up something like melon and have it in a bowl right there on the top shelf.  Usually that works for me!  So, just try to find something low cal. that you can "set aside" for a late night snack.

That's an interesting theory :P  I wake up hungry.  Then I go back to sleep, because lazy wins out over hungry every time.  I don't know what'd happen if I actually were motivated to get out of bed for anything...

The lazy factor wins in my case 99% of the time.  But I used to wake up and eat anything I could find (usually it was cake) in the middle of the night.  Wierdly this is when I was smoking too.  So I quit doing both because neither was good for me.  I'm all for the metabolism "kicking butt" that's an awesome way to look at it.

Heyy thats been happening to me lately too! usually im hungry and i cant go back to sleep till i eat something. So i always have carrot sticks or cantaloupe ready. Pretty much just have some precut fruit available and in a spot in the fridge where its in your face so you dont go reaching for that brownie.

are you eating enough throughout the day? try to fit in a protein/carb combination for a bedtime snack

this has been happening to me for the past year now. what should i do...i dont wanna eat late at night no matter if its an apple or a 4 table spoons of peanutbutter and crackers.  i dont like how it makes me feel and it has to be keeping me from loosing weight and its not good for my stomach

don't go to bed hungry! have a snack within a couple hours of going to sleep.. i usually have oatmeal 2-3 hours before i hit the sack and it keeps me from waking up hungry.

oh ive tried that too..nothing seems to work no matter what i do.  i've tried everything. i even tried melatonin liquid under my toungue which knocks me out but i still wake up at like 3am and munch. sorry i know this is my own problem and i can only listen to suggestions but i've really tried everything i dont know why i wake up at night im never really that hungry but still wanna eat

i was going through the same exact thing for like 6 months.. always at 330 to 4am.. and i struggled so much with it and tried everything to correct it

and then finally i just thought 'if this is what my body wants to do im just gonna stop fighting it and let it have food at 3am, whatever.. and then slowly (very slowly) it seems to be happening less, or actually just later.. which is nice.. you know, one week it was at 5am.. and now its around 6.

i dont know how helpful this is but i just thought id share. just do what your body is telling you to do and youll be alright i think
