Help from women please!
I had the Mirena coil fitted a couple of months ago and everything was fine and dandy - now I am finding I am piling on weight (even though I am sticking to CC like glue!) and none of my bras fit any more 'cos my bust has swollen so much!
Help and advice wanted please!
If its been a couple of months since its been fitted I wouldn't necessarily blame the coil? I'm not saying its not, but there may be another issue going on? I'd see your GP & explain whats happening. Ask to get a bloodwork done and get them to check your tsh levels (thyroid) as the hormones may have thrown it out of whack?
Thanks Irishmum - I will try and get a doctors appointment then (I was hoping it was going to be something nice a straight forward!)
I got the mirena when my daughter was 5 months, and had it for a bit over a year. I liked it fine at first, but as time went on I was VERY moody, hungry, swollen, depressed...not feeling AT ALL like myself...and I didn't know what the problem was. I couldn't lose weight for the life of me and my belly was so bloated that I looked pregnant. My husband was so frusterated that he looked up the mirena on the internet and found a whole bunch of people were having the same issues with it, even though it is supposedly a very low dose hormone that only affects the ability to get pregnant. Doctors don't even admit it can wreak havock on your body. So, I got it removed and within a couple weeks, I felt soooooooo much better. My waist size went form 41 inches to 37 inches without losing much weight......I would look up those web sites and see if you feel like the way the other wemon did. I guess some people love it and their body id fine on it, but for others it seems to have very undesireable side effects that it is not supposed to have.
Hmmm - maybe not the all singing all dancing help they suggested then!
Have you been on horomonal birth control before? Did you have similar symptoms? Mirena releases a very small amount of horomones, so if you've never had problems with horomones in the past it could be something else. Either way, you should ask your doctor.
Cosmographer I was on Cilest (birth control pill) before and the only time I ever had problems was during the week between strips (ie the period time) and if I stopped tracking my food on here (when I basically stopped eating again!)
I would check with your doc.
I'm on Mirena (have a Mirena? Whatever, 'me too') and I had some pretty serious pain and no period for my first year on top of always having a REALLY hard time losing any weight. I found out that I have PCOS, totally unrelated to the birth control, but because I had always been on the pill before, I didn't see any of the symptomes.
SO, it could be something entirely unrelated, that being on the pill curbed symptomes for, so you should definitely check it out with your doctor.
Hi there, I just had Mirena inserted at the end of October. The only difference I have noticed is that now my breasts are very very painful a couple weeks before my period. I was hoping not to get a period anymore as a lot of people with Mirena don't. Me? Still get it, although much lighter and shorter than before.
Do you find you are just gaining before your period? I go up by a couple of pounds, then all the sudden its gone again.
As others have said, definitely check with your doctor to make sure nothing else is going on. Before I got it, I specifically asked my doctor about weight gain as I have worked way too hard to get to where I am. She assured me it would not affect my weight, and it hasn't. Everyone's body reacts differently though.
I agree, everyone's body will react differently. I also have the Mirena, and I haven't experienced any problems, per say. I believe it may be making it a little more difficult to lose weight since whenever I would try before birth control it would just melt off of me. I don't have any pain or bloating though. I have had the Mirena for three years in October and I only recently stopped menstruating altogether. Before, it would be very light and very short. I would, as others have said, definitely check with your doctor before removing the Mirena.
