write about what you find most interesting or disturbing about genocide. rwanda? bosnia? iraq? pick a country... pick the topic that really bothers you the most. alternately, which makes you cry the most?
heres a link to humans rights watch, you might search there to get some ideas. good luck.

darfur. holocost. native americans.
thesis: _____ was the main cause of (whatever genocide you pick) because _________.
then find evidence.

I say do a pro and con approach---this is tough and you have to be willing to go to a side you believe is evil, weak, or uneducated, but you have to go all the way, and if you do then you will score, trust me, I am a good muse.
Most hate Hitler, but he followed what he believed in, and even though I would kill him if I saw him, I would still respect that part of it.

I'm still working on my thesis statement, i have to somehow include why the hegemon should take a strong stand on genocides. I'm can't think of why..LOL
I'm not very good at essays or history, or global issues...not my thing.
I'll check out the blackrose007. That's the radio channel, right?
Thanks everyone!

Hi....
How about writing about Hitler and then comparing to how the world has not really moved on or learned from this experience, so why do people feel the need to clense?
Could always go for a hypothesis of what would happen if aliens (assuming they exist and are intelligent) were to sterilize the planet.

I just read an interesting book about eugenics in Vermont in the 1920s/30s - about how they tried to sterilize people with "undesirable" traits. Hitler used these studies in an attempt to justify his actions... if you google eugenics vermont it will bring up all sorts of interesting articles.... it might take you down an interesting road and one your tutor might not be expecting!
I don't know when your paper is due... but I think something easy would be to compare the genocides in Africa in the last 15 years or so. Start with Rwanda... there's a lot of books out there on it. Compare it to what is going on in Darfur, Sudan and in Ghana... The world said they'd never sit back and let genocide happen in Africa again after Rwanda, yet nothing is really being done.
As for a thesis... I think you need to collect all of your information and start writing the body of your paper first. The thesis statement and the conclusion are usually the last things to come. Once you get the base of your paper written, you can come up with a thesis, and then edit the rest of your paper as needed.

I think it would be interesting to study the idea of the Irish Potato Famine as a form of genocide...it might get some points for creativity!
Have you thought of perhaps focusing on the forgotten genocides, genocides that have not been acknowledged or defined as such. There are a number of them and the effects on the victims and surviving people have been socially very interesting. For one instance the Armenian genocide which happened in the forst part of last century still holds back both the Armenian and Turkish people- in fact Turkey may not get EU citizenship fully granted until it does acknowledge the tragedy, the worls was so busy with WW1 it went fairly unnoticed until it was over. There are other countries/peoples this has happend to- most recently- Darfur- it was almost off the radar due to the rest of the goings on in the worls- they have no PR so to speak- we almost "missed it" Myriads in between though
Another would be to look at the is the artisit interpretation of genocide. There have been huge and well known works of art based on genocide- from short fictional stories, oils on canvas, films to performance theater.
what about a study of eye witness short story accounts of survivors of genocide- the similarites and differences- these abound and lend a very human aspect to a horrible tool that generally has very political drivings

There's a book called 'Problem from Hell' - I had to read it in college - good book, obviously depressing, but its about a variety of genocides (and also how major government including ours allowed it to happen). That would probably help... good luck... its an important topic.
Go watch Schindler's List and inspire yourself from that.
Or instead of focusing on Hitler and the 40s, maybe look at more recent events with Saddam and what he has done.
Another good movie to rent would be Hotel Rwanda. Its about the genocide that happened in Rwanda a decade or so ago. It was up for an Oscar and was an awesome movie. It was made 3-4 years ago.
Its a lesser known story as Hitler and Saddam, but very interesting (and very sad).

If you're going to focus it on a film perspective... which I think would be very interesting as well... you could check out "The Last King of Scotland". It's based on true events but they wove a fictional story into it with this doctor... but why not look into Amin and the genocide he created in Uganda in the 70s. He killed 300,000 of his own people. There has been a lot of that happen throughout history that you really have a lot to pick from. I would love to do a paper on genocides.
