help, my yogurts will expire...baking ideas??
I hate to throw away food, i haver like 1000grams of banana yogurt which will expire this weekend, its left over from my kindergarden, and its banana and high cal, but i wanted to make a treat i could freeze or even just give away to friends i will have over this weekend. my mother in law makes a nice cake but she never knows mesurments just trows stuff in. and i thought banana yogurt could make something good. thanks
You could just freeze it like it is and use it in place of cool whip...bet it'd be great on a pound cake.
i tried freezing yogurt to make frozen yogurt it was not a sucess, but i never froze it and let it thaw....this works?
I have no idea...I was thinking it would be kind of like a whipped cream...it could turn out terribly, but freezing it will preserve it longer.
freeze & use for smoothies :]
you can freeze it in an ice cube tray, cover with saran wrap, and then use them in smoothies instead of ice :)
you could also do the same and stick popsicle sticks in once they are half frozen and those are good for kids (don't know the type of friends you are having over this weekend).
here is a link to a banana yogurt bread. Although, it is more a banana bread using yogurt (8oz yogurt/1banana). I bet it would be really banana-y with banana yogurt, though. There are a ton of recipes for breads and cakes that call for yogurt and bananas....you may be able to substitute a bit.
^^you're too quick :)
i also have lots of walnuts, so something with walnuts yogurt flour, only ? is what do you put in cakes to make it a cake baking powder or soda, really i know nothing.
I just wanted to mention dont try to freeze yogurt and then thaw it out and expect it to be edible. It separates and goes really nasty.
On the positive side, the yogurt should last at least a week (or more) past its expiration date.

you could make a huge batch and maybe take them into the kindy for the kids?
As someone mentioned, you can use yogurt well past the expiration. After all it is actually spoiled in a sense already - just we consider those bacteria to be "good"! (And they are.)
If it starts getting mold on top - ok that's another thing. But I've eaten yogurt well beyond a month beyond it's "date" and still fine. Smell of course or if tastes funny then do the obvious.
Freezing will likely make it sort of crystallize in a way when you go to eat it - it will be creamier if you freeze then thaw a bit and whip it up to de-crystallize. Love the ideas for ice-cube trays full and using in smoothies.
Experiment with the banana bread. I often toss in applesauce or yogurt as I make brownies or other breads even in place of fats and liquids (or reducing them then. No one seems to be complaining in my family! :-)
You can use it in baked goods in place of some or all of the oil. Quick breads like banana or others work well with yogurt. I've used this recipe a lot with yogurt: http://www.razzledazzlerecipes.com/quick-brea d-recipes/a-to-z-quick-bread.htm
I have the same problem! I bought a big container of Lite n' Fit yogurt and never used it and now it is near expiration. I know it is ok to keep and use past the expiration date, but it just doesn't seem as appetizing to me now.
Does anyone have any great ways to use the Dannon vanilla Lite n' Fit yogurt that they want to share?
I use Dannon vanilla Lite n'Fit (6 oz) as a base for smoothies. Add bananas, strawberries, blue berries or what ever you have, 1/2 cup milk and ice with a couple of packages of your favorite sweetener. I have a Hamilton Beach single serving blender with a drink-top lid for stuff like this. It makes 16 oz of what ever you've used. This has saved me from my sweet tooth more than once. Yogurt doesn't spoil, at least not in my life-time.
