Herbal Teas? (no laxative/stimulant types)
I've been looking for something non-stimulant or a natural way to curb my hunger as I'm trying to get my body & mind used to eating less - volume of food and stem off cravings for sweets.
I've come across and bought some herbal tea with fennel as the main ingrediant - and it did not cause a laxative effect at all (nor was it labeled as such). Tonight I came across an herbal tea with Rooibos and Carob and from what I could find on the net Rooibos is *said* to help regulate blood-sugar and reduce cravings for sweets.
I'm thinking the one I've been drinking with fennel & carob that I add some Splenda to, is just sort of giving me a warm liquid in my stomach and therefore a filling-effect and the Splenda is giving me a satiation for my sweet-tooth.
Has anyone else tried these types of herbal teas? Did you find them helpful? Waste of money?
I really enjoy Celestial Seasonings Country Peach Passion. Holy crap, it is GOOD with a packet of Splenda, or even without Splenda. No caffeine in it.
Splenda is really bad for you, why don't you just have pure cane sugar or even honey?
Anyway, yes, I love all of the teas you mentioned with honey or without anything at all.
You are right franni...and on that note...

I normally use an italian honey. It is very light and does the trick.
Teas are Great.
As a sweetener, you can also try Stevia in your tea. You can find it at Whole Foods or other natural food places. It is a dried plant - that happens to be many times sweeter than sugar, and has no calories.
You can find it in powder form, and sometimes original dried leaf form.
The sugar industry and FDA have been suppressing Stevia for a long time... In Japan and most places around the world, it is used as an all natural, no calorie, sugar substitute.
I get headaches and other symptoms from artificial sweeteners so this alternative has been great for me and my sweet tooth.
Power On.
i love tea! it's got flavor but only 2 cals, and flavor makes me feel like i've eaten :) my favorite flavors are peppermint and blueberry. when i sweeten my tea, i use honey- i hate the taste of artificial sweeteners.
Mint tea for me - and I don't need sweetener for it.
Im a big fan of my teas also! 2 shelves in my kitchen stocked with coffees and teas, opps lol.
Im enjoying a cup of spiced orange tea right now..mmm very festive! I drink green tea in the morning if Im too lazy to brew a whole pot of coffee, and I have a night time tea that I drink in bed. In the summer I have a raspberry tea and a peach tea that I brew cold and add sugar to for my own flavorful iced tea.
I think tea can help you to lose weight. A cup of tea can be comforting, much like the way mac n cheese or mashed potatoes can be. But like Hannadot18 said, they have almost no calories. I know that on days when I drink more than 3 cups of tea, I eat way less than I normally do. And I also agree that if you want to sweeten it up, add a bit o honey or a spoon of sugar. Skip the artificial sweeteners when you can.
