here's another for those of you who are still against gun control

Hate guns.  Love my kids.  Nuff said.

No one I know that owns and operates firearms would, in a million years, allow an 8 year old to fire an uzi. Proof that stupidity exists up North too.

Who needs an Uzi?

That is what I'd like to see an explanation for.

uzis are fun.  right?

I do not love guns, I own and respect the proper use and storage of them.

I believe in the second amendment and am an independent, pro-choice, believer in gun control.

effing uzi's, and what pray tell is the civilian use for this weapon?

Not for an 8 year old. Or even a small woman.

This is the worst kind of malicious irresponsibility. The person that allowed it should be jailed, IMO.

Lock your s*** up.....and no one gets hurt that isnt suppose to... People are so dumb..

The short answer is no one has a civilian use for an Uzi. But that isn't strictly the point, bagga. One bullet can kill as effectively as 10 fired in rapid succession.

This isn't about whether or not there was an Uzi on the premises. This is the absolutely idiotic assumption that an 8 year old can fire one.

Wow so many questions come to mind. First of all, I'm assuming the "adult supervision" was referring to the parents, so what the hell kind of parent would let their 8 year old child fire an uzi?! Second of all, why the hell were uzis even available for an 8 year old to fire?!

 dude that's what I'm saying....

An Uzi is the perfect weapon for hunting wolves from helicopters.  Everyone should have one.

If all gun owners kept their guns properly secured and out of reach of children, I wouldn't hate guns.  The problem that I've seen is that people like to keep their guns where they can easily reach them if they have an intruder.  If the gun owner can get to the gun quickly, so can children.  Trust me--I was a child once (a long, long time ago admittedly) and I have children.  An otherwise well-behaved child commits one small indiscretion or gets a little too curious and a horrible accident can happen.  Or maybe the "intruder" isn't an intruder after all.  Or there's a heated argument...  That, of course, isn't the case with the Uzi family, but is often the case when children get hurt with guns.

Not only proper storage but also effective education. A kid needs to be taught from an early age to respect firearms.

oh wow this was in MA and the kid was from CT.

:( poor little guy.

I agree KG and my point was poorly stated. I was merely wondering what the NRA's reasons for not wanting strict regulations on these types of weapons is..

I personally have been shooting since that age, shotguns, pistols, and rifles, it's how it works in a family of right to bare arms fanatics.

So I can extrapolate that this poor boy was there with papa much like I and my brothers were at one time, doing what papa told us to do, because papa and his friends are idiots.

Edit to add: I do not have kids, I store my guns in a safe, I have dogs to warn me to open it if necessary.

Kathygator--You said it, sister.  My dad had rifles in the house, and he kept them leaning against the wall in the kitchen.  I don't remember exactly the words my parents used to educate us, but I do remember sweeping the kitchen, gingerly picking the rifle up with two fingers by its bullet opening (sorry--what's that called?), sweeping, and gingerly setting it down.  I probably looked very funny--I'm surprised no one told me, "It's an unloaded rifle, not a hand grenade."  Anyway, I'm guessing my parents must've said something that made an impression on us.  Of course, it would have been nice if they weren't just laying around the house. ("they," of course, referring to the guns, not my parents....Smile

Edit:  changed "it's" to "its."

I think that because a small portion of the population is mentally retarded, we should punish everyone. I think thats a GOOD plan.

So, one 8 year old kid died. Big whoop. Yes, it is a horrendous tragedy, but you know what? Take a look at the death tolls from car crashes. It's ridiculously easy to get a license. Following the same logic, we should ban cars.

Or at least keep 8 year olds from driving them.

I cannot believe you said that.

BTW, cars have a useful purpose.  What is the purpose of guns, other than killing?  Hmmm...

What about the idiot who is driving/giving the gun to the 8 year old?
