I heard from a friend that you are only skinny if your thighs do not touch. What do you think of this?

it can be true in some cases and some its not.

Skinny is a comparitive word, everyone has their own definition! Just the same with beauty.

skinny is a little more objective than beauty lol...

I don't believe that's true. I have a friend who has a great upper bdy, with a flat stomach, but large thighs. Everyone is different and you just can't generalize like that. But that's just my opinion:)

Well my thighs have always touched, even when I was 103 lbs.  I think it's all about body type, not weight really.

I definitely don't agree with that..you can't place every single person into a mold, some people hold more weight in certain places than others..doesn't make sense.

Okay here comes the time... to shoot your argument in the face.

take a 300 pound woman and a 100 pound woman both 5'3.

Both women can be attractive to different sorts of people, one person might be more into a woman who is "okay" with her body and being that large where as another might like the more athleticly fit smaller woman.

In the sense of which one is skinny by deffinition the 300 pound woman can not be considered skinny in any real sense of the word. Not with the "shape" of current society.
When I was in high school I was 5' 2" and 94 pounds and my thighs touched.

Do the BMI tell me if I was skinny.

So, you're only skinny if you physically can't cross your legs?

This can't be true because aren't people who exercise and do leg exercises have larger and more muscular thighs which makes them touch?

You see that's what i thought too! I just wanted to see everyone's opinion on it!

i think people have there own ideas of skinny

Is your friend 11?  Because that sounds like the logic of a child.

Any chance that her thighs don't touch, and your's do, and she wanted to say that she's skinnier than you in a roundabout way?

If so, ignore. Actually, regardless, ignore.

I think skinny is anyone smaller than me.

alot of it is genetics. leg shapes, etc. not to mention the amount of muscle you have. many girls in my ballet class are skinny as hell (for example, 5'7 1/2 and 104 pounds) but their legs are muscular so their thighs touch.

amethystgirl: actually yeah, her thighs do not touch. Maybe your right! She's really lucky because she can eat as much as she wants whenever she wants and not gain any weight. She also plays soccer, so they run a lot!

Thanks for your replies everyone! Keep um coming!

I read an article in my doctor's office that said that touching thighs to thighs that are only .5 inch apart from each other is considered healthy. Anything really dramatic )1 to 2 inches) means that your body weight is too low.

However I agree with what a lot of other people said- it's all about your body shape and composition.

no because if someone has wide hips, their thighs might not touch even if they are the same weight as someone with less wide hips.
