Hey you college kids!

Hey College people who eat in the cafeteria how does anyone know how to rate what they eat in the cafeteria. I try and be resonable with it but how do i know im doing the right thing? I have no idea what they put in that food, let alone how many calories might be in them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yep, I have the same problem
I just try to stick to plainer dishes. Like plain meats, grilled etc, or i guess, if I'm really stuck
Eg a beef casserole, say I have about a cup of it. I eat the meat and keep in my head about how much meat i ate. So I log that. Then I pretend they used an average brand casserole sauce. And add that. Then add veggies
Usually I just have rice/pasta, and guess 3/4 cup, piece of grilled meat or canned salmon/tuna, guess the veggies.

What type of meals are you talking about?
If your having trouble finding healthy things to eat at the cafeteria...you might try emailing or talking to the manager. Suggest to them that they add a few healthier things (they want to serve food that people want to eat... it costs the same for them).

Or, if you dont mind the food...you can always go and ask them directly whats in the food (whenever i ask about things like that, they are more then happy to say...its not uncommon for people with allergies or other diet needs to inquire). I bet you could even find the nutritional info right off the packages (cysco is a good bet in cafeterias haha).
Lol, i have an intlerance and they stil wont budge. I'm allowed to go in and ask for a speical meal to be made if the food htey have is inappropriate, but there's either no-one there or I dont realise until after i eat it, and I get a bit of cheek from some of them.

Often cafeterias use bulk or pre-made products, like Sara Lee cakes, or Heinz spagetti. Sometimes they even use catering food, which ahs the nutritional details. If you can find out what they use you can look it up.
When I was in school there was a big binder full of all the nutrition info. Ask if they have one and if not, you might consider petioning for nutrition info. I'm sure out of fear of the freshman 15, many people would sign.
Thanks for all the ideas this is great
