Hey, I thought when you're pregnant you get a 9 month "eat whatever I want" card.  Can I be pregnant for you?  Kidding

Welcome to the site, congrats!

yeah I wish! pfa! I seem to be more of a food freak now then ever! I want to eat healthy but I want to stuff my face so bad!I know that other women do think they eat for two, but realisticly you are to only eat an extra 300 calories a day! crazy eh? well, yeah wondering what other women are doing with their cravings? - winnie
hmm when i was preg i just stuffed my face.  with pancakes.  oh how i loved pancakes.  i would go to bob evans like almost every day to get like 2 cinnamon and sugar pancakes with a blueberry pancake in the middle.

i dont like pancakes.
i dont eat pancakes.
i spent 9 months with pancake batter in the fridge at the ready in case i wanted pancakes.
which was all the time.

i havent eaten a pancake since.

and dont get me started on the vinegar that i ate.... literally, ate.  hmm...  and i wonder why i am fat now???? :-p

do your best and realize hey, we only get to be preg so often... and a lot of times, those cravings have a basis in reality... its the self control that needs to assert itself (oh which i have issues with being NOT pregnant...).

CONGRATS and I know there are a few other pregger folks around here... try posting on the lounge for more responses...
I think its great that you want to watch what you eat during the pregnancy - unfortunatly for me - the carvings won out and no food was safe - needless to say I packed on 44 lbs - I had the baby 7 months ago and I lost 10 lbs at birth - and only another 10 melted away the first 3 months - I was breastfeeding- not sure if it helped but then the weight loss stopped - so here I am still 24 lbs heavier - (getting back on the healthy wagon!!) so in short keep up the good work your body and your baby will thank you for it!!
Hey thanks for the encouragement, blelieve me it has been tough tough tough! Exspecially today! I find that I just want to eat, mainly out of boredom, and lack of things to do at work, but before I go pregnant I lost a lot of weight, like 35 pounds, - my trick was not to eat anything with sugar or fast food or junk food, for 6 weeks, and it seemed to work, first 2 weeks I drop like 15 pounds! it is amazing how if you switch up your eating habits your body going into a different mode, just a suggestion it worked for me, like nothing with sugar, no breads with sugar, I ate natural sugars like fruit, but nothing with regular cane sugar. It was interesting the first week was really hard but I got through it. When you breast fed were you moderating what you were eating as well or were you just eating what ever? oh yeah did you find that you were hungry like in pregnancy? - winnie
No Problem :o)   When I was breastfeeding I did monitor what I ate mainly because I didn't want it to affect my son - I didn't eat real badly after birth - in fact my appetite all but disappeared for a few months.  And my lack of appetite certainly didn't do anything to help with weight loss - I think that is when I hit the plateu (sp?)
yeah I want to make sure that I continue to loose weight, and I stumbled across this sight by accident, and I am glad that I gave myself an account, for a long while now I have been trying to count calories on my own, but never really took into account all the little things like margarine, and oil and stuff, interesting to see how many calories I actually consume! crazy - but then it tell me i expend a lot of calories to , curious what is the average calories you all are expending, my expendature says like 2400-2800 depending on whether I go to the gym given that I am also pregnant! any ideas? -
Congratulations!!

I would say that now is not the time to continue to lose weight, but eat maintainece calories + 200 or so. A pregnant woman's body DOES need more calories, but it is not a crazy amount. You could probably find the exact amount on another site.

The healthier you eat now is good on 2 counts. Obviously for the health of your baby, but for you as well. Make sure you get plenty of iron and calcium bc your baby will take those straight from you and if you dont have enough to share, YOU lose out and that can hurt you later.

I gained 40 pounds with the first and lost all but 20. Then I gained 10 when I got married. I gained 35ish with number 2 and lost all but 20 again and that is where I was when I came here. I am now lighter than before baby #1.
Wow! that is fantastic! I know with my first son, I was really sick, I had toximia plasmosis, so I was on bed rest, mind you I was only 16- as well, so my nutrition was not as good, but he was 9 lbs 8 oz! crazy, i gained a tottal of 100 pounds, i was 230 at the end of my pregnancy, and have been trying to shed it, I was down to 153 when I got pregnant with this one and now I am 174 and going up! I am taking a multivitamin and I am so thankful that I did not swell up with water! praise God! That was my biggest concern, was getting that nasty toxin again! I really like this sight and all the helpfull suggestions, thanks ladies, - and men! - winnie
You're supposed to have 300 cals more than usual during pregnancy.  You don't need more than that.

Wish I'd have stuck with that rule!

I feel your pain. I'm preggers too, and I see no harm in keeping track. It has actually made me smarter about the choices I make, and really puts things in perspective. I've stopped drinking soda, and cut out fast food. Though I do try and indulge every once in while with other things, lol..

Good Luck.

Whoa!  Old thread!!!  ;)

I just read the OP, and now I'm wondering how the "baby" is doing?  Baby is just over a year old now (if I'm doing my math correctly)?

Also wondering if you kept track of calories and if it helped control your weight gain or if it made it any easier to lose the weight after the baby was born?
I am interested as well.  I was wondering how many calories you stuck to and if it really helped.
I was wondering do you add the 300 calories to your 'burn' amount or what?
