Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k Hey teachers out there!?!?!?!
Hello all. I teach 5th grade and just wanted to say hello. Just starting really...I have about 50 pounds to lose. I was thinking we can work together to give ourselves some motivation! GO US!
Im a teacher (8 years).
I am an SLP in the schools.... or as the kids call me "the speech teacher" :). I have about 48 pounds to go or so.
Hardest thing in the schools is all the junk food that gets brought in. We have Food Fridays and everybody brings in a dish.... If I am lucky there are a couple of "healthy" choices. Thank goodness this year there is no vending machine... that was my downfall last year.

I am also an SLP in middle and high schools. I have 50 to go.
We can do this....

Hey there, I am a teacher/principal at a small private school in Canada. I am still needing to lose around 30 pounds. Good look all!!
oh this is apropos! i'm not a teacher but one of my closest friends is and just yesterday i was talking to her on the phone and she wants me to help her in losing some weight because she's been seeing i've lost some. she's been saying this for a while now but i think really getting serious about it now. i'll be looking forward to any tips or advice that i can pass along to her that is specific for teachers and i'll be sure to do that same, if something works particularly well for her i'll share :-)
well, i can admit one of the big problems i have is my water intake. i don't have the luxury of using the bathroom as much as i need to...what does everyone else do.....besides hold it! lol.
and i totally agree with the temptation in the teacher's room! plus, a lot of us like to go to happy hour and such on a friday.....it's really difficult. i did weight watchers for a while and i use their motto......."nothing tastes as good as thin feels".......pumps me up when I think of it!

I am a third grade teacher in Richmond, VA. I need all the help I can get. I have to be ready for my wedding in 11 months and my goal is to lose about 75 lbs. I will try for 5-6 each month. Wish me luck!
I'm kind of a teacher... I taught middle school math for several years, and now work with 13 school districts (small rural) in mathematics professional development... Is that close enough?
:) Kelly
BTW, good luck Tina. Your goal seems very doable! :)

Hi there,
I'd like to think of myself as a teacher, but I'm not quite there yet. I'm in my first year of my B.Ed...I also would love to lose some weight...50 would be great, but I'd be happy to lose twenty...I'm just starting all this counting calories stuff...Its tough...anybody know if it gets easier? Oh and if so, when? (lol)

Good luck to you all!
Good luck to you all!
supply (substitute) teacher here... mostly cover for high school grades... i've lost about 32, another 140 to go... i've got a loooong way, but i'll get there...
Me too!! Geometry, basic alg., & computer programming. I have too much to say!!! Let's just say when I wanted to lose it all by Aug 29, 2007, the computer chugged, chugged, chugged, then started laughing.
Anyway, I know about the water/bathroom issue. So, I drink 1 glass as soon as the alarm goes off while I'm sitting in bed w/ my dogs. Another 1/2 glass as soon as I get out of the shower, finish the glass b4 I can have my coffee. Funny how much less coffee I then drink. I have 1st period free so I try to take a few sips before the period begins. 1 glass with lunch, 1/2 glass during the next plan period, 1/2 thru study hall. 1 glass as soon as school is over. 1 glass with dinner. By drinking water with my meals, it helps. I have to pretty much stop by 7 tho, or I'll be up all night.

Hi vb! Hope it's okay, but I friended you...I do the same, I try to drink my water throughout the day rather than big chugs all at once....we're on the block schedule, so I have to teach 87 minutes at a time...not very conducive to using the bathroom at regular intervals during the day.
I've had to stop keeping candy in my desk as prizes for the kids. I've noticed that I'd snack on it during my planning time. AWFUL!

Good to hear from you Charlotte! We have a "Biggest Losers" contest at work. A special ed teacher dreamed it up. Teachers across all depts. pe, math, sci, social worker, asst prin. all want to lose weight. We put in $20 & our names in a hat, he put us in teams of 3. The team that loses the most (% of body weight)by spring break wins. Also the biggest loser on each team wins $35. It's been great because everybody is talking healthy food, no junk foods signs are ALL around the dept offices! Finally, all the other teachers have been supporting us by not bringing in coffee cakes, etc. I've turned the math & sci people onto this website. Our depts are very supportive & close to each other. Just losing weight is making us all winners.
Oh, the funny part is that some teams are trying to sabotage other departments by bringing them food. No one has brought any into our office yet though.
I know this off topic from water, but I hope it's entertaining!

Not a teacher but a college counselor and we always have the foods that make the freshmen pack on the freshmen 15 around the office. Been in the field now for about 10 years and it is only this past year that I can't seem to walk past all the temptations. With the water - I do something similar to vbnet (while I do not have class periods to compete with, I meet with students on every half-hour). I probably have more flexibility there though.
Good luck to all.
Good luck to all.
My mom is a teacher, she is teaching French for over 32 years, and she's still doing it!
