hey yall I got some questions!!
Okay i have been working out and eating right for three months or so....I started off at 285 and i'm now i'm around 268...my physical therapist said she doesn't want we exercising for 2 weeks or so and i'm worried about gaining the weight back because i was exercising pretty hard and i owe that to my weight loss but anywayz...apparently my BMR (what i burn daily doing nothing) is 2,300 or so and i have been trying to stay below 2,000....will I gain it back or lose?? another question I keep bumping back and fourth from 270 to 265 daily...what is going on?? yesterday I was so happy i finally broke 270 and i was at 265 this morning....is there any way i could be losing muscle and not fat?? I was doing weight training and was getting pretty muscular and I don't feel as tight now?? Is this a possible muscle loss?? Thanks!!
lotsa questions lol
well 2,300 is what you burn if you're relatively active and obviously if your stuck in bed all day it would probably be about 1600 or less so you'll have to modify for that
going from 265 to 270, the extra 5 is probably just water weight, which can vary accpording to the time of day but you probably weight 265.
it's unlikely you'll lose muscle, muscle takes quite a while to break down, unless you've been bed bound for weeks! and once you keep exercising your muscles they won't break down
and if you were doing weight training maybe you need to push yourself a bit harder, i often overestimate my weight-lifting compared to my time on the treadmill but thats probably just me.
finally congrats on the weight loss, and i don't agree with the physio completely, she probably just doesn't want you pushing yourself as hard, go for long walk instead of running, i'm sure if you mention your weight loss goal she'll advise something similar.
Hi there,
I would call back the therapist and ask if you can do some light workouts with bands until you can go back to the full workout you are used to. Also meanwhile I would restrict calories from 1600-1800 (I don't know how tall you are, but just to help you, and maybe this combination will keep you in your present weight as you go back to working out. Also plenty of liquids will keep your body leaner, actually fortifying your muscles as well. Hope this can help.
If your BMR is actually 2300 (BMR is not the same as sedentary - it's lower), then I'd recommend eating close to that much, because even if you are sedentary, you'll still have a deficit (your sedentary burn would be about 2300*1.2 = 2760.
However, if 2300 is your sedentary burn, I'd say eating about 1900-2000 would be a good goal.
I might have missed it, but why did your pt advise you to not work out for a few weeks?
Hi Red,
I'm certainly no expert, but our weight loss journey's seem very similar. I started about 2 1/2 months ago at 284 ... current weight this morning was 258, but I can easily fluctuate 3-4 pounds on a given day. I don't know how long your PT is asking you not to work out, but recently I was unable to exercise for almost 2 weeks, and although I didn't lose anything, also did not gain. I did keep calories around 1600 most days, and that seemed to work for me. The hardest part was motivating myself to get back into the routine of exercise when I was able!
Good luck, and don't let a small set-back discourage you!
