HFCS in Bread!?
A few weeks ago I was looking at the ingredients in my whole wheat bread, and I read high fructose corn syrup?! Why would they put hfcs in bread? Is all bread like this or is it just the kind that I am buying?

HFCS is in quite a few breads... I was shocked to see it in Nature's Own Double Fiber bread because it was my favorite... I switched to Nature's Own Wheat and Fiber...
I think the syrup is like a binder? Maybe?

Yup...you've really got to check labels. It's kind of a bummer - bread is a pretty simple thing - flour of some sort, water, yeast. There ya go. And then they add all that other stuff in there. I look for breads that have short ingredients lists and nothing unusual/that I don't recognise. They are definitely out there, and usually cost more, but it's worth it.
Also - if you start buying bread without all that extra stuff in it, it doesn't last nearly as long, so keep it in the freezer/fridge or use it fast! :-)

You know, bread isn't really that hard to make on your own. It can be quite fun! It amazes me what we are willing to put into our bodies for the sake of convenience.
Yeah, actually because of the warmer weather my bread already isn't lasting as long. I go to the store on Thursdays and my bread stays good until I run out of it (typically by the next Thursday). Well, this week I made a sandwich on Tuesday, and my bread tasted really sweet because it had started molding. I almost gagged when I realized I had been eating bread that was beginning to mold. Yucky! So, now I'm going to have to refrigerate my bread anyway.
