Ok im here, because I like to eat and if I dont quit gorging it is going to kill me. Be fore i met my wife I worked out , played sports. Since i committed to her I began to swing off the fridge door for exercise. Slowly the weight crept up I kept telling my self the I would not hit (insert # here) I made half hearted attempts at weight watchers and nutrusystem. Went to a weight loss program sponsored by a hospital, that worked for a while. Fast forward till 3 years ago, I was told by my doctor to do some thing or I may have an age of suffering. I was later told that I have type 3 diabetes. That still was not enough, I dabbled with CK but no extended commitment Recently I have been to the hospital for what I thought was a heart attack , but turned out to be acid reflux. Last week because of chest pains my doc suggested that I carry around some nitro. At this point I need to do something. I need to be focused and committed. I will not be told by any one or by my self that I am a lost cause. I will get a handle on this addiction to food.
This day three for me so no history to really point to Im just taking this one day at a time
Wow. I didn't even know there was such a thing as type 3 diabetes. You just sent me on an hour long cruise of the internet. It was quite confusing. Type 3 diabetes can either be:
- A combination of type 1 diabetes where the body starts attacking the insulin producing cells on the pancreas and Type 2 where the cells develop a resistance to insulin. Also referred to as "Type 1.5"
- Gestational diabetes
- Alzheimer's which new research has shown might actually a "diabetes of the brain"
All of these three problems can be referred to as "Type 3 diabetes" despite the fact that they are completely different diseases. Since you are male and I don't think they have a good way to diagnose Alzheimer's yet, I am going to assume that you have been diagnosed with the problem that can also be called "Type 1.5".
Yeah, take it very seriously. It can lead to a much shorter and very disabled life. Also, people who are diagnosed with diabetes under the age of 65 are at significantly higher risk of Alzheimer's.
Think about the shape you are in now and what you could do, what was it, 5 years ago? Is there anything in the refrigerator that is worth what you are going throuugh now? I am sure that your doctor has talked to you about your diet. You can turn things around and, in effect, turn back the clock. Follow a sensible diet, lose weight, and start exercising again. Sports might not be the best place to start, just walking for 1/2 hour for the fastest pace you can maintain for that time would be good. But you already know you have to do something, just do it.
Hi roblau09,
I'm with ya man. Kept telling myself when I was 40 I'd do something ... you know the rest of the story. When I am this or that, or when I get this or that, or when I do this or that, I will change phooey pooey on me. At least I have stopped lying to myself. Well most of the time.![]()
Very interested in the diabetes.
clharr, thanks for the research.
love & light
