Hi guys, new here!

Hi guys, I'm new to the forums. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Mattison & I'm a singer/model/dancer. I am currently around 120 pounds and my goal is 110 pounds. I need to be extra lean (and healthy) because of my chosen career path. That isn't the only reason, however. I just like how I feel and look at that body weight. I am 16 years old and 5'6". I have currently been eating between 1200 and 1500 calories per day. I also exercise as much as possible, and I try to do something active everyday! I know some people will say that my daily calorie intake is too low, so I have a few questions about that. Will it really slow down my metabolism to eat as low as 1200 calories per day? I usually end up eating closer to 1500 each day though. I also don't know how many calories I will need to eat once I reach my goal weight of 110 pounds. How do I figure that out? I want to be able to maintain that weight for the rest of my life. Of course, I don't care if it goes up and down a little bit, but I want to maintain my weight loss.

I also have a few questions about overeating. Sometimes, I unintentionally eat (way) more than my goal of 1200-1500 calories a day. Does this mean that I am restricting myself too much? Do I need to eat more in order to lose weight and maintain my loss? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I am naturally a small boned person and a very picky eater. I don't have an eating disorder, so there isn't a need for concern. I simply am careful about what I eat.

You're already too low a weight, you're undereating very badly if you are a dancer and you are going to be clinically underweight if you get to 110lbs.... if you're happy being infertile, bent double with osteoporosis by age 30, prone to every illness going the rounds and possibly ending up in hospital with malnutrition problems you go right ahead but don't expect cheers and flagwaving from the CC community.

This site isn't for people with eating disorders or people who deliberately want to make themselves sick with starvation diets and over-exercising.  Please read the rules of posting messages.

Posting Guidelines

Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management. Please help our moderators follow this vision and respect the following guidelines.

  • Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.

1500 is the minimum intake for teens. Your goals are unhealthy and cannot be supported by CC.

Calorie-Count is all about healthy and sustainable weight management.   Please be aware that this website does not support pro-ana type posts or eating patterns and those posts will be deleted/locked.

Since you are only 16, here are some links with a calculator and lots of information for teenagers:

  • calculator and calorie information for Teens
  • Nutrition, Exercise & Weight Management for Teens
  • More Nutrition & Health for Teens
  • Dieting & Metabolism (explains starvation mode and why undereating is counter-productive)
  • The Body Neglected (explains what happens when you undereat a long time)
  • Something-Fishy.org (information about eating disorders)
  • We hope this helps, but we must advise you that that this website does not and cannot support unhealthy eating disordered behaviour from those who are unwilling to get help.

I hope the links above help and that you find the positive, healthy support you need. Please know that 110 pounds would give you a BMI of 17.8 and is highly unhealthy, especially for a growing teenager who should be gaining rather than losing.

Yes you are restricting too much whether you are 16 or 17.

You are already under a BMI of 20 now which may severely impact the hormonal and skeletal development that needs to happen over the next 8-9 years until you are 25.

110 and 5'6" is a completely suicidal goal.

You're too short to be a model, so why even bother going the unhealthy-thin life in any case?

You're obviously already starving which is why your body is fighting back and making you eat the amount of calories you need to thrive -- as a young dancer that'll likely be 2200 or more a day.

Why not be a strong a physically fit dancer at about 125-130 lbs for the next few years?

Instead of using all that self-discipline you have to turn it on your body as though it was the enemy -- why not use it to make the most of all your assets and talent on your terms and not the terms of industries that make a habit of chewing up and spitting out all these doe-eyes young blonds who are desperate to make it at the cost of their sanity, health and well being?
