Hi, i am new on the website. Is there somebody here who is 40 and + ?
I am 40 years old, 5"5 and 148 . My goal is 137 and i should be 137 by July. Would like to find somebody to do this together, to support and to help to reach goals.

I noticed that it's not something temporary that i am doing, counting calories, it's like different way of thinking what you want to eat and about food in general. With planning my meals i can pretty much eat everything i want. You just have to sacrifice something, i won't eat this today, but instead i will have that. Well, that's how it works for me to stay in my calorie range. I agree about the breakfast, oats on water and with fruits work for me. I don't feel hungry until 10 o'clock, i have my breakfast at 7.00 in the morning. Then i have banana or apple and i am good until lunch time, which is 1 - 1.30 p.m for me. I have salad or chicken sandwich for lunch usually, at 3.30 or 4.00 i have cherries or if i have sweet tooth, have a small 100 calorie bag of cookies. Then for the rest of the day i have at about 500 calories left. I love vegetables and for dinner eat veggies with broiled chicken, meat or backed fish. I didn't weight myself yet, waiting until Monday. I don't know how much did i loose but that helps me to stay in my calories and not be hungry.
Today is another hot day, 100F. But at night cold front suppose to come and bring rain and thunder storms. So it will start getting cooler at 10 at night or so. And i am planning to go tomorrow to the gym , it should be 85F..... can't wait.

Very hot here as well Leila, today should also be the worst of it for a while here.
I made it to the gym this morning, for the first time in a while. Felt really good to get back into it, did circuit training for 30 min and the bike for an hour. I feel like going to the gym, makes the whole day better. Have a nice work out tomorrow. When you get tired think of us and go a little more lol
Going to do some lite housework, relax and have a healthy lunch.
Drink lots of water everyone, stay hydrated and enjoy the day.

It is so hot outside and very cool in inside the office building, so it is nice. I just had healthy lunch, char-grilled chicken garden salad. Love this salad from Chick-fil-a. Have a big glass of water with a lot of ice and lemon helves on my desk, it helps to be awake
I feel like i need a nap, it's probably because of the heat. But i also was walking after lunch in the park for 20 minutes, so it's a little exercising.
Tomorrow definitely i am going to do my best in the gym.

Hi everybody,
Today is much cooler, 85F and sunny. Last night we had thunderstorms and showers. I am going to go to the gym tonight, can't wait. I really missed it. I am doing good with the calories, now i am eating 1260 +- calories a day.

I'm a little confused about the calories burned in a stationary bike, alright a lot confused. I've checked on many sites and they are all very different, do any of you know how we should log it? I was told that this site is way off on what it says for bike, and now told that the bikes at the gym are way off, what do you think of that. I hope that I have been burning as much as I thought, but it doesn't look good. I guess the smaller you are the less you are burning, and what the bike itself says is based on a 160 lb person. If that is true, I have been burning way less than I thought. At my gym you can't put your weight in on the bike only your age, maybe I will go back t using the treadmill. That stinks, I enjoy the bike so much more than the treadmill. If you know what the accurate amount of burned calories is, please let me know.
I'm having a very lazy day today, don't really feel like doing anything. I think I am going to read, then my daughter and her family are coming over today after the babies appointment. Poor little guy has lost to much weight, over a pound which is 11 percent of his total weight. 12 percent and over they have to be hospitalized, so it was really close. Her milk hasn't completely come in as of yet, which would have been fine for a little baby, but not good for our pork chop. He is using more calories sucking than he is actually taking in. 11 percent of his body weight is a lot, that is like my losing 12 pounds in two days. He was at the pediatricians office yesterday, she said for his lose she could not believe how alert he was. They had her start him on formula yesterday and she has to bring him back in today. I feel really bad, she wanted to go with no formula only breast milk for the first few months. Well as long as he has gained or stayed the same since yesterday we will be happy. I'm looking forward to have the house full today.
I'm doing good calorie wise, but don't want to go to the gym today ugh!

You are right, Lori. It feels much cooler now, with 85F. I really enjoy this weather and just came back from my lunch walk in the park, it is so pretty outside.
I like the stationary bike too and when i usually log in my workout, i just look the stationary bike and look what level was it. I really didn't pay much attention to the calories burnt.
My girlfriend gave birth to the baby boy 6 weeks ago and she doesn't have problems with milk. At first she had a problem with the baby, he didn't want to suck. Then everything was getting better and better and now he eats pretty good. She is planning to breastfeed him until he will be 6 months. Ooh, i can imagine your daughter is upset about all this and she worries about little guy. Hopefully he will gain weight on Formula and will be all right.

Baby gained over night with formula. Birth weight was 9lbs 2 oz, yesterday was 8 lbs 1oz, after formula for one night already back up to 8 lbs 7oz, so he is doing good.
Good for you walking at lunch, glad the weather is enjoyable. Kids are not coming over today, they went straight home after docs. I have been dusting, doing laundry, loaded the dish washer and just straightening out everything. Not going to the gym, but I plan on moving all day long. Everyone says they don't feel hungry in the heat, I wish I had that problem I'm always ready to eat. I have had about 10 glasses of water already today, but that isn't doing the trick I want more food lol
I am glad for the baby, hopefully from now on he will gain a little more weigh every day.
I have read today that if you are hungry in between the meals, your metabolism works pretty good. I feel hungry before every meal, i get up in the morning starving. So i hope that my metabolism is working fast. When it was really hot during the last couple days, i couldn't eat anything hot or heavy, just something light, salad or sandwich. And of course i was drinking crazy amounts of water. I don't know why, but i drink more water when i come home from work. I can drink probably something like 4 bottles.
Lori, i have a question for you. Do you log in your weigh every time it changes? Do you change your goal weigh too?

Leila I log my weight every morning, up or down I always log. I have not changed my goal weight, once I reach my first goal I might do that. If I am happy about how I look when I get to 105 lbs, I will probable keep that for my goal. I try not to worry about that yet, at the rate that the last five pounds will come off for my first goal, it will take a couple of months I bet.( last 5 so hard)
What about you, do you change your goal, how often do you weigh yourself?
Oh, o.k. i don't do this. Actually i found this feature only yesterday and was wondering how i should do that. I didn't not change my goal yet, i want to loose at first 10 pounds and then i will decide. The same think as it is for you, if i will like the way i look,i will just maintain the weigh. I try to weight myself every other week. But i didn't weight myself for a week now, so i will do it on Friday or Monday.

Lori - so glad to hear the baby's doing well. It's scary when they lose weight, and always disappointing when a baby has to have a little formula, but thank goodness it's there as a backup.
Leila - I'm glad it cooled off for you - heat waves are just awful, I know.
Thanks for the advice guys, for my vacation. I will stay very hydrated and eat lots of salad and not go crazy. I think I told you that my husband is so supportive, and he loves eating healthy, so he won't do anything to hurt my goals. I found my suit and it hides my butt, which is all I ask for these days :-) I was very proud of myself today, I totally didn't feel like going to the gym, but I went anyway to my powercuts class, and it was great. It does make the whole day go great! I confess I hopped on the scale, since I knew I was missing Friday, and no change. But that's ok - I think we're all a lot healthier and in more control than when we started this post, don't you? Well, it's almost 1 in the morning - I'd better get to bed if I want to be a nice mommy tomorrow and enjoy the day. I probably won't post until Sunday evening, so have a great weekend girls!

Well, we chatted really more than usual and it was really great! I am glad you found your bathing suit, i know that it is really difficult. I agree with you that it's important that right now we don't gain any weight, it will start working for you again, don't worry.
I went to the gym last night and was really tired, but when i came there i have got a lot of energy. I don't know where it was hiding really. I spent 50 minutes on treadmill walking uphill. I was sweating like piggy but i felt so good after that the rest of the evening. I didn't weigh myself yet, tomorrow......... I am doing good with my calories, so far i didn't go over. It's much cooler today, 85F and sunny, i really enjoy such weather.

Leila you have been getting to the gym more than I have, good for you.
Yesterday I went over my calorie limit, and I am very mad at myself. The scale doesn't lie, and it told me that I am a bad girl. I'm heading to my daughters house, I thought I would go for a long stroll with a double stroller, for the first time. I can't wait to hug, kiss, and love the boys (mom and dad too).

I really like going to the gym now,it gives me so much energy. One day over the limit is not so bad, Lori. So don't be too strict to yourself, you are probably back on track today. Tomorrow is my weigh in, a little scared and excited at the same time.

This book is less about dealing with symptoms of menopause, like hot flashes, and much more about the dietary changes required of women who are 40+.
The diet itself is 40% protein, 25% fat and 35% low glycemic carbs and includes eating 5 small meals a day, exercising, eating soy each day and avoiding alcohol. The nutritional changes are very do-able for me.
I am keeping a food log on paper, counting fat and protein, etc.
Like most of you, I am petite, 5'2" and feel extra weight in the tightness of my favorite skirts! I don't like it at all. I'd love to lose 10 pounds, so I have a couple of pounds to play with during vacation and Christmas. :-)

Welcome to our block!!! It's great if it works for you. But i have bad experience with diets and i am not going to start another one. I feel great counting calories, i like it because it is not a diet. You can eat everything but in moderation, watch portion size and in your calorie range. You said you are back on CC,did you loose weight here?

The Menopause Diet is not really a diet, but a nutritional way of eating for one's "age," as a woman. The notion of using food to help control insulin response is something really important to me as I get closer to 50 and see my waistline slightly expand without even gaining weight! It's the "girl thing"!

We are all 40+ and we all have the same problem, we want to loose weight. I am 40 , will be 41 in July and i just started in May CC. But i really like it here and you can get great support from each other. Well, i really never heard about this Menopause Diet. Maybe it's just a little too early for me yet. When my time will come i will be interested in the subject too.

Welcome Julie, glad to have you join us. Not many of us here, but we all support each other very well. I'm 43 years old, trying to lose a couple of pounds around the middle. I joined on May 4th and have lost about 6 pounds so far. When you don't have much to lose, it seems to come off really slow. Better slow than not at all I guess. Looking forward to getting to know you.
Leila I really enjoyed the day with the grandbabies, I can't get over how well JC does with the baby. He is very protective for such a little boy, really loves being a big brother.
I am back on track today, really disappointed with myself for yesterday, but life goes on. I put on a pair of shorts that haven't fit me in a few years today, don't know why I still had them, and they fit. That was a good feeling, I love losing weight.

I have great news, i lost 2 pounds!!! I can't believe that. I noticed that my clothes fit different way, pants are not so tight anymore. I will continue what i am doing, maybe will add some more cardio and will start next week. It should cool down to mid 70s, so i would be able to go to body pump class, it's lifting weights, and exercising with weights on the shoulders. That's what i need now, i think. I am going to get to the gym today after work.
Last night we make our plans for Father's Day. My husband and his father usually play gold on this day, it's a tradition , so they went to the range last night to practice. It was not so hot. So, on Sunday we all go to have breakfast together with his parents and then my husband and his father go to play golf and we go shopping with his Mom. I told you girls that i am from Russia, so my parents and my family is there. We usually spent most of the holidays with husband's parents.
That's great that you had a great day with your grandbabies, Lori. I looked at the picture of the baby and his Big Brother again, it is so cute. It's unbelievable how softly and tender Big Brother was holding the baby. They are both so sweet. Oh, yes, it's a great feeling when you can fit in something you couldn't for a long time. I have a jean skirt i couldn't fit in and i want to try it and see does it fit yet or i need more work. But i really want to wear this skirt again.
