Hi from not so sunny Oregon!
I'm Charlee, (f) aged 52, married, madly in love with my husband, and GROSSLY overweight....but not for long! :)
I found this site yesterday, and have spent a bit of time poking around and playing with the meters. I love it, many thanks to the founders!!! I love that losing weight doesn't have to cost me weekly dues, I don't have to have food shipped to me by some company that will relieve me of all responsibility for what *I* put in my mouth!
My "weighty journey"? I am the product of overweight parents, and by the time I was a 5'8" 15 year old I weighed 160 pounds. Now that might not seem bad to some, but it was a precursor to the future. My weight bounced up and down for several years until I had my second baby. By the time he was 3 months old, I weighed 190. My weight crept up to 340...and then I discovered the internet! I always laughed at those that said, "I forgot to eat!" But that's what I actually did! I was so enthralled, that I forgot to eat, and my weight dropped to 225.
Then hubby taught me how to drive a truck, and the weight snuck back..a pound or two at a time, until I was at 290 again. (We aren't truckers anymore, but I have a sedentary desk job) That's what I weighed 3 weeks ago on March 1st. That's when we started a little competition with our friends...girls against boys as to who can lose the most weight and maintain it. If the boys win, we let them go marlin fishing. If we girls win, we get tummy tucks! ;)
I have to confess that the first week I lost 13 pounds. Before you yell at me, know that I now have ankles again! It was, I think, some fat, but mostly water weight. I entered the second week at 277. At the end of week 2, I weighed in at 271. (more water, I swear!) and this week, a much more reasonable 269.
Hubby bought me a bicycle, and I ride that, or walk, but my general health (lousy) and total lack of exersize in the past several years prevent me from doing much more than about 10 minutes at a time. I'm trying to increase, but it seems to be taking me forever...
So that's it. I'm looking forward to being a decent weight again, and looking forward to making new friends while I'm doing it! :)
Welcome to CC!!! And congratulations on the latest weight loss. Water weight or not, it's pounds gone and the fat will soon follow!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm sure glad the weight, water or not, is gone...I feel lots better! I'm pretty determined to lose this excess baggage...
Welcome to the CC family. We are glad to have you.
I have recently gained weight and I feel I can now safely call myself fat, which is cool by me. Being overweight has caused me to have a new perspective on life in general and it has caused me to be even more perceptive. For instance, I have two fat cats. They are pretty much always happy. Now my other two cats are on the skinny side, and they moan and groan a lot about this and that. I have found that skinny people (in general) moan and groan much about nonsense, but overweight people (in general) tend to go with the flow more and are not so whiney. Just an observation.
Back to your situation: I am sure that you will lose the weight if you really want to, but really I wouldn't stress out about it. You are the same person on the inside and that is what counts. The exterior is really not to be the emphasis. Our culture is very focused on all the wrong things.
Keep us posted on your weight loss or (gain). FYI, I have gained a few more pounds and am now pushing 170.... no worries. I guess if I gained another 100 pounds I might be a bit concerned. My boyfriend is forever commenting on my "curves", in a positive way, so I guess I am doing alright.
Hang in there and stay strong.
Hi Charlee!
Nice to meet you. What I know of Oregon is what I see on Little People Big World. Love the show.
I'm a Jersey transplant now living in South Carolina. You want sunshine....come on down! I'm 55yrs. old but young at heart. Still hoping for some grandkids one day. But none of our kids are stepping up to the plate yet.
Have 95 lbs. to lose. Hubby's not too far behind me. I am otherwise healthy but he has Diabetes and high blood pressure and I wish he would seriously get on the weight loss bandwagon with me. He's also the cook in our home and it would help tremendously if we were on the same page.
Our youngest is getting married in Sept. so I have a short term goal to start working on. Just having a little trouble getting motivated this time around. (This time around) What a recurring theme this is for some of us! How many times have we lost the weight only to turn around and it's found us again.
I have been going to a support group called TOPS. (Take off Pounds Sensibly)It's a national group. Strictly for support. Everyone does their own thing. You have to face the scale every week which I'm not crazy about. The scale has never been a motivator for me. Losing a pants size is. As women we know our water weight fluctuates up and down during the month. I'd rather weigh in once a month. But that's me.
I have gotten off track lately but I have maintained my weight for the last 2 months. Tomorrow I start getting prepared again. I find that preparation is the key to my success. I have to have things on hand that are ready to go when those cravings for something sweet come along. As much as I hate journaling everything I put in my mouth, it does keep me more on track. But this losing weight is like having another fulltime job!!!
