Can high amounts of calcium make you taller?

I've heard somewhere that a high amount of calcium can actually make you taller in the future. Is this true?

Your height is primarily genetic.  Calcium deficiency in youth can stunt growth, but I don't think that excess calcium can make you grow - otherwise everyone would be doing it! (By the by, your birthdate on your profile is completely different from the age you state - are you 17 or 26? Because if you are 17, you'll probably grow some more anyway. 26, however, is doubtful...)
Hehe sorry about that. When I was creating a CC profile. I was'nt sure if they did'nt accept people under 18, so I made a higher age. I have no idea how to change it.
But thanks for the info :)

i used to think that i would have stopped growing by 15, i was wrong. im 17 &im still growing a bit, still short as heck, but growing!

just be sure to get 1,300 mg calcium. meaning 130% DV.

I grew a full inch sometime between 17 and 21, while I was in college. I'm still only 5'0" though!

I suspect that I probably could've grown to at least 5'2" if I hadn't started smoking at age 13, and had eaten healthier. I never liked milk all that much, and was raised on a crappy diet. The smoking was probably a bigger culprit, especially considering my mom smoked 2 packs a day while pregnant with me, and all throughout my childhood.... then I started at such a young age.

Everyone in my family is short... but I am by far the shortest. I'm shorter than my mom. You're supposed to be taller than your parents. I shoulda eeked out another inch or two!

The other thing that is weird is all my shortness is in my legs. Petite shirts are actually too short in the arms for me, which is bizarre. But petite pants are always way too long.

<end of rant, thank you for listening>

supposedly a grandmother health when carrying you mother can influence your height. weird. but I assume it was properly researched. Shorter people require less nourishment so I suppose it was a good survival tool when someone might be a grandmother at 30. She would still be healthy enough to help the grandchild get proper nourishment in a food scarce situation?  Its not saying a mother does not have an affect, just saying a grandmother can affect also.
nsgamer, wow, that makes sense! My mom was baby #4, one right after another, it's highly likely that my grandmother was malnourished by the time she got pregnant with her. And my mom as a baby had some health problems, she was underweight, she would stop breathing ... probably would have died of SIDS if my grandpa didn't sleep with her on his stomach, listening for her breathing all night long...

Very interesting!!!!!!!

Oops.. but wait a minute! My older brother is 10 inches taller than me, and my older sister is 4 inches taller! I still think I somehow got a bum rap. :-(

the only way I know how to get taller is to stretch.  Yoga is proven to make people as much as 2" taller, but that is rare.

Try this experiment:  put both of your arms out in front of you.  they should be the same length.

Now, take a gallon of milk and curl it/lift it up with just one arm about 10-20 times.  Now check the lengths of your arms.

Imagine the muscles in your whole body tense like that.  If you stretch, it will make the muscles longer!

No eating high amounts of calcium will not make you taller.  It will make you bones stronger which is always good no matter what your age.  Plus you body can only absorb so much calcium at a time (around 500 mg).  So over loading yourself on to much calcium with only stress you liver and kidneys. :)

Hi. I am a nurse. Just wanted to let you know that high amounts of calcium will not make you grow taller, in fact too much calcium can be dangerous. You should check with a doctor to see what your recommended daily dose of calcium should be. The only known way at this time for a person to grow is by taking Growth Hormone, which is a controversial and dangerous subject in itself. Whoever said yoga is right about the yoga helping you become taller, not by much tough. Yoga will lean out and lengthen your muscles and improve your posture. Its great for your body and your mind. I think that is your best bet. But I just want to put in there that if you are only 17 years old...there is a chance that your long bone formation has not completed. Some Males continue growing until they are 20-24 years old.

High amounts of calcium will give you a kidney stone, you do NOT want one of those. It hurts like crazy and you pee nothing but blood.
