high amylase levels, what exactly does it mean?

Hi I just got checked and apparenly my pancreas has higher-than-normal amylase levels, but not high enough to be of much concern or any kind of disease/condition. But I'm curious, since amylase breaks down carbohydrates, what exactly does it mean to have higher levels? Does it make my body more efficient in turning sugars into energy, or the opposite? I didn't take biology in high school, so I never learned about it but I'm curious...any thoughts?

The human body is amazing. Do you eat mainly carbohydrates? When something becomes more available to the body, it tends to create more enzymes to break down the substance. Think of alcoholics - they require more and more booze to become drunk. This is because the body is producing more enzymes to break it down faster.

actually yeah...i kinda have a binging problem, so that could mean consuming alot of carbohydrates :S
