High blood pressure and pulse during recovery from anorexia?
This post is maily to question my suddenly high blood pressure and pulse.
However, to supply readers with the most accurate information, I've provided some backround for you.
It's been a very long journey to reach this point, but my body, for the most part, is funcitoning wonderfully. In terms of weight, my doctors want me to reach 108 lbs. (I am 5'4" and have always been around the 10th-15th percentile for weight, so this accounts for the few extra "relapse prevention" pounds).
My mental state has also improved significantly. I am much more accepting of change, not just in regards to diet and body, but daily life in general. I am also being granted the privilage of making my own snacks now, and I must admit, my choices have been very substantial and balanced (PLENTY of calories and lipids :))
I only have 6 lbs. left to gain. My bowels (sorry for the tmi) are fucntioning noramlly again. My periods have been back for the past two months, I have SO much more energy (still, no exercise, but that will come back once I hit target weight!).
There's just one problem... My resting pulse and blood pressure have all of a sudden SKYROCKETED! I have no clue what's the matter! My blood pressure has, the past week and a half, been a consisten 140/100, while my resting pulse has been 90 laying and 137 standing! The initial shock came when I learned I was orthostatic, a problem I ahdn't encountered in years. The alarmingly high numbers are all the more to worry about.
If anyone has expirienced similar symptoms during their recovery, or knows an explanating to my crazy vitals, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you SO much!

hi
what is orthostatic?
im also 5'4 and am now about 105 but have not gotten my period back. i guess it goes to show that every body is healthy at a diff weight?
id suggest asking your doctor.
Hey there!
As a nursing student, I can definitely second the above recommendation to see your doctor asap..your systolic BP (top number) is high, but your diastolic BP (bottom number) is worryingly high, which means your heart gets very little rest in between beats. Your pulse is also quite out of normal bounds. Possible reasons might be salt-sensitivity or kidney problems...but only a doctor can say for certain. I hope this helps a bit, and that you get the care you need!
Take care, and congrats on your great signs of recovery!
EDIT: I just rechecked my medical fourm, and my blood pressure was 148/95, which is still quite high!
Agru: Yes, you hit the nail right on the head! Everyone's body is different. Also, it can take up to six months at a healthy weight for your cycle to come back. Just keep yourself nourished, and things shall work out just fine. Cognrats on your phenomenal progress, too :)
Skinnyrkcross: I have an appointment with my doctor for Monday, thankfully! I just am a huge worry-wort and slight hypocondriac, so ofcourse, I couldn't resist posting this. Ah it's just frustrating, because I've always had such nice and LOW blood pressure/pulses :/
And for those who have never heard of orthostasis, it's a heart condition in which your pulse and/or blood pressure increases/decreased by 20+ points during the transition from laying to standing, primarily as a result of dehydration. I drink TONS OF FLUIDS, and eat TONS OF CALORIES though, so it's just so puzzleing.
JULZ-congrats on your progress and im sure your doctor will be able to help.
i think its important for everyone to realize that there is a healthy range for a reason and that 2 ppl the same height are not necessaraly meant to be the same weight.
yes, were both 5'4, but i see my goal weight as beeing closer to 130, at least, rather than 108, which i do think is still underweight JULZ, but not even 115, i think the lowest as my goal. if your doctor says its ok, then alrt, i know i dont feel healthy now tho + a m not surprised i dont have my period, but i cant wait until i get it back.
Agru, I'm only 16, if that helps at all! I know my weight has to continue to increase with age and heigth lol I have a really small frame, so weight looks different on me, and I'm just built like a dancer/runner. Even at the same height though, age accounts for weight variations. I notice this when I put on my suit for debate team... I look ummm.... like a four year old playing dress up in her mom's closet! haha
I think I may have a culprit for my vitals... my protein intake has been pretty high lately... roughly 190 grams per day. Granted, since my calorice intake is at 3100 per day, this is only comprising 25-26% of my total calories. But still, could this much protein be causing heart troubles? Ah gosh I wish I had some damn patience to wait until my appointment on Monday! lol
