High-end makeup brushes or the cheapies that come for free?

Quote  |  Reply

Out with the ladies a few nights ago there were definitely two camps of girls. One set were the hard-core "I only use high end makeup brushes" and the other was the group that uses the freebies that comes with the blush/eyeshadow. Which camp are you in and why??

Are makeup brushes important or a waste of cash?

I like my makeup brushes, they feel good on my skin when I apply the make up although in a pinch I'll use the freebies that come with.  I buy mine at costco and they're significantly cheaper and just as good as the bare minerals ones I got with the kits.

I will have to check them out. I use a Bare Escentuals Heavenly Kabuki to apply my Faux Tan however, I find the standard BE brush to be extremely irritating, have no idea what hair it is made of but it isn't good! My favorite brush is my Trish McEvoy powder brush, it's like silky soft heaven!

Until recently I just used cheap and free brushes. I have started to invest into some nice brushes. Personally I like the high end brushes better. They apply the make up evenly and lightly.

one word: eBay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I go to myminprohair store on eBay. I browse the "free shipping" area. I usually get an awesome deal like "Straight Sexy" hair products (3 shampoo's, 3 conditioners for $19.98?!?! with free shipping?!?! AWESOME!) So I tell all my friends... because beauty can get expensive ;D

I spent $12 on a set of 5 natural brushes. Bamboo handles, soft bristles. The bristles are sturdy and dont fall out (that Ive noticed) so they hold up better than the badger hair or what have you. Plus, I dont feel like an insensitive jerk ripping the fur of animals for my blush, and Im not hugely put out if they do fall apart.

I personally like the high end brushes. You can get a really nice set for uner $20, and they last! I will admit that I also use freebies. There is nothing wrong with them. A lot of times I will make a "travel kit" and throw in some of the freebie brushes. My husband bought me a nice brush set for Christmas, so I have been using them right now. They are black and pink!! I love them!!

Well, until a couple of years ago, I only used the brushes and applicators that came with my make up products.  I do have a couple of cheapy travel sized brush sets that I use now.  I think the brushes work better.  I do have a problem with losing bristles every time I use the brushes.  I'm thinking of investing in a better quality set of brushes, but I'm a bit on the broke side so it's not really been a priority.   I do apply a lot of my make up with my fingers, ie blush (cream), concealor, and foundation as I feel I have better control over how much I put on.

I actually prefer to use my fingers when applying foundation and cream blush. I own many brushes and my favorite brushes are by Sonia Kashuk. These are reasonably priced and can be found at target. My most expensive brush is the MAC 187 which I think I paid around $50 for. I have a Sonia Kashuk highlighting brush which is almost an exact dupe of the 187 for a fraction of the cost. I think I paid less than $15 and I even like it better. So if anyone is looking for good brushes but doesn't want to spend a grip, try Sonia Kashuk at Target or Ecotools which is even cheaper.

You know for me, I bought this brush set that cost me about 40 dollars from Mary kay Cosmetics and  I'm really not all that happy with the way they feel on my skin. Hard and they are now starting to shed hair on my face. So I would say that in some cases price doesn't matter. I know to just go on over all quailty from now on. I  just read aboutthe Sonia Kashuk at Target from shell7796  so I'm going to try these soon!! Thanks and I hope this was helpfull.. Kiss
