High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) Commercial

Quote  |  Reply

I thought it was hilarious when I saw a commercial promoting High-Fructose corn syrup. The commercial shows a lady pouring kool-aid and trying to convince another woman to drink it (who is health conscious) because it is made from corn and low in sugar...lol...Not sure if the commercial is everywhere..I'm living in California...it was a good laugh, what will they come up with next

And we wonder why there is an obesity epidemic!!! High Fructose Corn Syrup is probably the worst ingredient in the world! AH! I stay as FAR AWAY from it as possible!!!!!

...Undecided.  I haven't seen that one, but I've seen another one like it (probably made by the same people).  She says that it's "made of corn", and it's "the same amount of calories", so...what? it MUST be terrific for you, right? People are so lame.  That commercial is just promoting junk food and an unhealthy lifestyle, basically.  Pretty stupid.  I hope people aren't THAT ignorant.

I saw that TOO! It's GREAT!

It means awareness is being raised about HFCS and its dangers, and corn syrup industry is fighting back. The people who don't know what HFCS is may be inclined to look it up on the internet and see how terrible it really is.

Here are two of the commercials -

So if you cant remember the specifics of why you should avoid HFCS, why avoid it?!

I was looking at a forum topic regarding this on Livestrong.com and they were having pretty much THIS convo and look at this.

The president of the corn refiners whatever actually made a profile under the name "Cornrefiner" and posted this. LOL hilarious.

The Corn Refiners Association launched a multi-media advertising and public relations campaign to change the conversation about high fructose corn syrup, which has been the subject of considerable attention and misinformation.

Most of the problem stems from the confusion about what high fructose corn syrup really is. Two-thirds of consumers are aware of high fructose corn syrup, but most do not understand the similarities and differences between high fructose corn syrup and table sugar.

Scientific research continues to confirm that high fructose corn syrup is no different from other sweeteners. It is nutritionally the same as table sugar and honey, and has the same number of calories.

High fructose corn syrup is made from corn, a natural grain product. It contains no artificial or synthetic ingredients or color additives and meets the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) requirements for use of the term “natural.”

Consumers can see the latest research and learn more about high fructose corn syrup at www.HFCSfacts.com and www.SweetSurprise.com.

Those commercials are abhorrent!!! Here's a few of them:

Wow. I love how the people don't know what the problem is with high fructose corn syrup is when asked. And they reply, "Why, it's just made from corn!"

Next we're going to see commercials advocating hydrogenated oils..."Why, it's just fat!"

Yeah i saw that.

It's right up there with that Wendy'd Meatitarian commercial.

Ugh, I can't get over how obnoxious some advertisements are!

Well, we all know HFCS is bad but there's no need to be so extremist. It is bad for health, like most processed stuff, but it's not the devil. I know of hypocrites whom avoid HFCS like a plague yet still continue eating highly processed food.

I saw a similiar commercial for HFCS. A couple was having a picnic and the girl offers the guy a bite of her popsicle. He says "But I thought you loved me!" and she's confused until he says "That popsicle has HFCS in it!!!" She explains that calorically, HFCS & sugar are the same thing so just eat the popsicle, dammit. I laughed.

The problem isn't with HFCS, really. It's that it's added to EVERYTHING, especially products that don't need it. I mean, do you really need added sweetness in your bread? yogurt?

I saw the same commerical last night here in Chicago and thought it was pretty dumb. Figures that corn is a product grown in the U.S. and not in Europe and yet American are much fatter than Europeans. NOw we know that corn is a contributing factor. Thanks corn people, but I will stick to corn on the cob!

I DID NOT JUST SEE THAT!  O_O I just saw the popsicle one... what the heck!? *Shakes head*

Kind of reminds you of those Smoking Commercials that tried to convice people that they could smoke like crazy and live perfectly healthy long lives.

There is little to no eveidence to show that high fructose corn syrup is any more dangerous than other sweeteners. That's just health hype. The real problem is that HFCS is extremely cheap, and so food manufacturers can afford to make their products extremely sugar and calorie dense at low costs.

The reason why HFCS is so much cheaper than regular sugar is because the US gov subsidizes the corn industry and artificially keeps sugar prices high.

I agree the main problem with HFCS is that it is added to almost everything. It jacks up the sweetness and calories of things that traditionally had no sweetness or sugar in it in the past.

It is a processed food item. I don't care that our gov has decided it meets the terms of natural. You have to process regular corn syrup to make it HFCS.

Here's a quote from the Washington Post: "Almost half of tested samples of commercial high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contained MERCURY..." It goes on to say 1/3 of sampled products with HFCS as one of the first few ingredients tested positive for mercury.

Mercury causes birth defects, developemental problems, and brain damage, among other things, and accumulates in the body as it is not naturally eliminated with other waste. The mercury in HFCS is from the caustic soda used to create the sweetener and manufacturers are working on cleaning up their act but no news so far...

HFCS or sucrose same difference........It's frucose that's the problem and considering HFCS is in just about everything and because it cheap and subsidized it's easily vilified. I've tried to find studies that points to HFCS having an additive deleterious effect on health compared to table sugar and I can't find any, so if there's something please post it up.
