High as heck...not sure what to do
Hi guys. Before you delete or lock my post for illegal activity please let me explain. I was in surgery this morning and they gave me a bunch of painkillers. (I.E. morphine, percocet, and I'm not sure what else) I came home and completely zonked out. Now it's been a good 6 hours and I'm awake, and still a little high. The trouble is I have this screaming headache. I think from all the drugs they gave me. They sent me home with more percocet. Should I take it for the headache? My surgery site doesn't even hurt. It seems like it would be counter-productive to take the percocet for the headache, when I feel like it is the drugs that caused the headache in the first place. Arghh!
Yea, you could probably take a little bit to help with the headache...thats what they are for, killing pain and making recovery easier on you.
Didn't they provide some after surgery home care instructions? It would seem irresponsible if you were not given any.
My first question would be to ask if you have ever taken any of those kinds of pain killers before, and what your reaction was.
I know that I've been on verious forms of vicodin (broken toe and wisdom teeth removal in the last 6 weeks or so), and i can't take it more than once or twice before it gives me a headache worse than the pain I was taking it for. I would suggest eating something (even if you feel sick to your stomach.. it may actually help with that too), and just laying down.
My two cents here :)
Hope you get to feeling better soon!
Edit: Vicodin is hydrocondone and tylonal, and percoset is oxycodone and tylonal, both have similar side effects as far as I've read. You can always google the side effects too.
Come to think of it they did give me some after surgery care instructions. It would be a good time to read them. Too bad they are in the car with my husband that is currently not home. And I was too high when I read them to remember what they said in the first place. This headache is really a brat (for lack of a better word), I think I am going to follow loriklorik's advise and just take the drugs. Afterall it isn't everday I have a legit excuse to get really high :)
Just read banana's advice. Good thinking. Eat first. Maybe it will help so I don't need the drugs.
Those drugs give me really bad headaches.
Those drugs make me so dizzy. I always taken them with food or it makes it worse. You can also call and ask your doctor if you can take a regular tylenol for the headache (instructions you have may say if you can or not, mine did).
Oh, you'll be fine. They sent you home with them...plenty of time has elapsed and percocets are safe to take 1-2 every 4-6 hrs.
Morphine may have left you with the 'hangover' headache. [It personally makes me itch like crazy]. If you want, just take some extra strength tylenol for the headache and I'll message you my address where you can send those percocets to. ;)
Thanks guys for the advice. Just had me a sandwich and 2 giant glasses of water. Headache seems to be getting a little better. I think I am going to take the meds now, I really don't want my surgery site to start hurting. I'm probably going to just take it easy and cruise the forums for lack of being able to do anything else. Hope I don't post anything inappropriate. He he. I'm bummed because I have been doing super good with my physical activity and the weekends are really my time to put in some serious work-outs. Not happening this weekend, that's for sure. Oh well. There's always next week.
you could always spend some time in AH Chat until you 'crash'... lots of important catch phrases are invented in there in times such as yours.
Sounds like a question for a doctor...someone who is a professional. Not a bunch of strangers on a chat site
I'm better now. The doctor told me to use the medicine for pain. I was in pain, took the meds and now I'm much better. Thanks.
Hope you have a smooth and quick recovery. :)
Thanks. I am actually doing surprisingly well (although my husband just laughs at me when I tell him that, he says wait till the drugs wear off).
Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
