High progestin BC pill making me RAVENOUS! (min-Ovral)
So I asked my doctor about switching from Ortho-Tricyclin Lo because my libido was non-existant (always has been). SO she suggested something with a high male sex hormone (and we all know how men are), and she gave me min-Ovral. I have been taking it now for a week, and although I have yet to notice the change I was hopeing for, I have been constantly hungry. I mean unable to obtain that satisfied feeling no matter how much I eat. I was trying to ignore it knowing I had eaten enough food and couldn't possibly be hungry, but I get so hungry it actually hurts! Has anybody experienced this? Will it go away if I stick it out?
Seasonale was the same for me. Due to it I hit my highest weight ever.
If I were you I would switch to another pill or try to wait it out one more month with this pill.
I'm taking a progestin-only BCP due to breastfeeding and am hungry all the time. Literally all the time. I also have no libido (maybe a different situation since I'm experiencing it after giving birth). I've been on the mini-pill since October and nothing's changed.
I'm never satisfied, either. I've even eaten and eaten until I've been in pain and still haven't felt satisfied. Has the intense hunger just started since switching pills? If not, it could be another issue entirely (thyriod issues come to mind because low libido can also be a symptom).
I've just been dealing with it, honestly. I drink a lot of water to help with the hunger pains and try to keep my eating under control. I have the benefit of burning a lot of calories because of breastfeeding so I've not gained any weight (yet).
I know this isn't the best source but eHow.com has a lot of great information on selecting a birth control pill in a low-libido situation:

Interesting Bier, I'll have a look at that. Yes the intense hunger has just started since switching pills, and it is driving me nuts!!! It feels so wrong to be trying to not eat when I am hungry. The lack of libido is nothing new for me unfortunatly.
The thyroid issue is actually something I am looking into, because I have other symptoms as well: extream exhaustion all the time (I mean if I don't get at least 12 hours of sleep, then I am falling asleep while driving... unfortunatly thats not realistic), always cold (its summer and I am currently running a space heater under my desk), dry itchy skin (I scratch my legs in my sleep until they bleed), constipation (gross I know, but once a week is "regular" for me)...
I actually went in to my doctor last week about this, and that was when she changed my pills for the libido complaint. She also got me to go in the following day to take some blood to test (no results yet). I'm not to hopeful anything will show up though because I had a blood test a couple years ago for the same complaints and never heard anything from it (and generally with stuff like blood tests no news is good news). Unfortunatly though I would rather the opposite - I think at this point news of an underactive thyroid would be good news so I can start getting some treatment!
I went through a gammet of tests after the birth of my first child. I had an underactive thyroid which they found through a blood test. I then had a thyroid scan (three different scans in 24 hours) that determined I had several benign cysts on my thyroid. If I remember correctly, they were inflamed from the hormones of pregnancy and eventually reduced in size and stopped having an effect my thyroid production.
A good friend of mine was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at the end of last year. She has had great success controling her symptoms with a gluten-free diet. I know it's a difficult diet to follow but it might be worth a shot!
Sounds like the intense hunger is definitely from the pills and if I were able to, I'd switch pills because it hasn't let up for me. It looks like there are a lot of options for low-libido BCPs and it will probably just have to be a try-it-and-see approach.
Good luck!
