High Protein Diet?

Quote  |  Reply

So, just out of curiousity, how many of you are doing the recommended high protein diet of 1g of protein per lb of body weight?  I had tried to do this (and succeeded) for quite awhile, but i got some nasty (and embarassing) side effects.  I don't think all the protein agreed with me, if you know what I mean... felt bloated most of the time and had *cough* gas issues that became a problem for me.  So, long story short, I have since thrown that to the wayside and just try to eat a balanced diet.  I'm feeling so much better and for the most part those issues have gone away.  Just wondering if I was the only one having this problem...

I do try to keep my protein up as much as I can, but I don't obsess over it like I had to before to get 135 grams of protein in each day... it was tough.  I just try to make sure I eat my protein bars as snacks and get some cottage cheese or eggs for breakfast in the morning.... stuff like that.

I can't say I follow that 1g/1lb body weight rule to a T, but since starting the workout regimen I do pay much more attention to what I'm eating and how much protein is in it. I've also added protein shakes & bars into my diet. Shake (or two) + 1/2 bar on days when I workout, and about 1 shake on days when I don't work out. I haven't been doing the plan very long, but I feel wonderful the past couple days.

My diet before (which wasn't actually a diet, just more like an eat whatever I wanted type thing) was terrible and made me feel bloated and gassy and awful about 80% of the time. In the last three days, I've felt wonderful - all while getting in 150 or so grams of protein per day.

I've been really good about eating well, and getting in a bunch of protein on a daily basis. Today, I've got a pre-workout snack of a bottle of Muscle Milk Lite and 1/2 a Clif Builders bar planned. Post workout I'll do a scoop of strawberry whey protein (Optimum Nutrition - I think - Gold Standard) in low-fat milk. What kind of shakes (protein powders) do you all drink?
