high protein vegan breakfast ideas?

Quote  |  Reply

hey guys, I've been vegetarian for a couple years and vegan for about a month now. I recently realized that my beloved morningstar veggie sausage patties have EGG in them Cry. (I'm learning that I have to be very careful when it comes to reading labels!) they were a staple of my breakfasts. usually I'd eat one of those with some fiber one cereal or some trader joe's oatmeal flakes and unsweetened soy milk topped with a banana or some other fruit. either that or some oatmeal w/cinnamon & raisins. or sometimes flax-seed waffles with fruit. I don't have time to do much cooking in the morning. but I can't make it 2 hours w/o being hungry again unless I have some additional protein. here's the thing- I'm currently trying to lose about 3 lbs, and I know that a lot of people would recommend like peanut butter or another nut butter but I want to avoid too much of that until I reach my goal weight. anyone have any good low-fat high-protien breakfast ideas or simple recipies for me? Laughing

Tofu scrambles are pretty yummy.  You can make up a batch and keep it in the fridge, just heating up what you want to eat that morning.  If you're into veggie sausage, I'm pretty sure Gimme Lean is vegan.  Tempeh bacon is pretty awesome, too.

I love the Gimme Lean sausage, it is indeed vegan-friendly...though they are more either patties or crumbles and not links.

You can also have some soy yogurt and protein powder smoothies with fruit which are really yummy :)

I also like pan frying tofu slices in a teeny bit of olive oil or Pam spray and putting between toast for a "fried egg"-like sandwich

A smoothie is probably one of the quickest things to make for any meal.  Just throw some fruit in the blender with some raw nuts, and coconut water or soy/nut/hemp seed milk and you're off.  You can boost with protein powers like hemp seed protein or soy protein.  I prefer using fresh fruit, but frozen berries are great (and faster), too.

Some multi-grain breads have a fair amount of protein (and fiber) so you can easily get 8g protein from 2 slices of toast and slather it with apple-butter or whatever.

soy milk+hempseeds blended together=20 grams protein

coconut oatmeal=6 grams

total=26 grams of protein

Tip - When you do tofu scrambles, add a small pinch of turmerick to give them that appetizing golden color.

I like the egg sandwich idea ;)

I think it's about time I invested in a blender.

Boca Original burgers have 100 calories and 18 g protein - which is so amazing and awesome it's almost ridiculous!  I'd imagine that you could mash the burger and combine it with scrambled tofu or veggies and it would be pretty good.

I'm almost certain the burgers are vegan.

I find that peanut butter as long as you stay in the serving size range, is good for fat loss- my breakfast keeps me full for about 5 hours here it is:

1/3 cup hodgsons multigrain hot cereal

1 banana

1 cup soymilk unsweetened

2 tbsp peanut butter

totals 500 calories, 20 grams healthy fats, 14 grams fiber, 24 grams protein

Add vanilla soy protein (make sure there's no whey or casein) to oatmeal.  It'll make it taste like you made it with milk, with a ton of protein!  I also add a tbsp or two of ground flax seeds.

There are several other breakgast sausages out there that are vegan including Light Life and Soy Rizo (El Burrito brand).

Kashi cereal is high in protein too.

I love steel cut Irish oatmeal but don't have a lot of time so I make 3 servings the night before. In the morning it's solid & gelatinous so it can be sliced into thirds and eaten over 3 days.

I have a smoothie for breakfast almost everday.   I use 1 cup soymilk, a frozen banana and a scoop of soy protein isolate.  For fall, I've been adding a little tinned pumpkin and some cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.   It's usually around 350 calories.

I also second the tofu scramble idea if you have time for that.
