high raw

Quote  |  Reply
I've been high raw for the past week. My diet is 90% raw, unprocessed fruits and veggies- with the additional 10% coming from occasional sprouted grains or nuts.

So far- nothing.

I was told of all these amazing benefits that would happenn in the first week. Most noticably- I was told I'd lose about 7 lbs of bloat an dunhealthy tissue. But I havent.

What am I doing wrong?

I've never heard that such an extreme diet would bring you all those benefits... It sounds more like constipation is headed you way LOLOLOL. Add some protein!

Besides, don't you get really bored with all the raw veggies? add some spiced up olive oil on top.

And this is just me, but I feel fuller when I've eaten cooked veggies.
how does protein promote regularity?  i thought it was fiber, which kim0 seems to be getting plenty of.

i've been doing gluten-free vegan, consuming only fruits [4 servings daily], unlimited raw and cooked veggies [no oil!], legumes [1 cup of beans daily] and whole grains [1/2 - 1 cup cooked daily] such as quinoa and brown rice.  i'm also not eating anything w/ added salt or sugar.  i DO have a spray can of olive oil which i use very sparingly, and a bottle of salad dressing in the fridge i'm using up.  in less than a week i've lost 7 pounds, but i was also considerably bloated going in to it, due to my sensitivity to wheat.  maybe try subbing other grains for wheat?  are you getting enough calories?  taking a good multi vitamin?

yes, people, i know alot of you will think of this as "extreme", but it makes sense when you think about all of the unnecessary processed foods being marketed to us today.  humans didn't always eat like they shop at Save-A-Lot, you know?
plus to add to lexa's comment i'm sure kim0 is getting enough protein. people seem to forget that you can get protein from veggies! also... she said she's eating nuts. nuts have TONS of protein.
Make sure you are getting enough calories.  If you throw your body into "starvation" mode, it will be much harder to loose anything.  Also be sure you are drinking enough water, with cutting your sodium that could be an issue.

If regularity is an issue. you might want to try psyllium husks for fiber. You can buy either loose husks to mix in a drink or capsules.

But there is no miracle food mix that works in 7 days.  Be patient.
Im not bored w/ raw veggies- there are so many choices!!!

lexabear- our stats are reall similar. im 20, 5'6'', my highest ever was 178, i joined this site at 170- 5 months ago (counting calories didnt do much for me), and now I am 168. your progrees is amazing. keep it up! you should know, though, that rice is gluten. there are 5 glutenous grains: wheat, barley, rye, oats, spelt.

I do think I am eating enough calories, and i do think i get enough protien, i drink 2 liters of water a day, work out regularly and take my multivitamin.

what gives?

Kim, I'd give it some more time.  If you were eating a relatively unprocessed, nearly vegan diet before you went raw, you're not going to see drastic changes as quickly.  Give it a month or so and see how you feel.

I've been at probably 80% raw (with allowances for the occasional cooked meal with customers or the like) for about a month and am just starting to see weight go.  My skin looks great, though, and I LOVE not feeling uncomfortable after meals.
Fiber can actually back you up if you aren't getting enough water to help move it along, hence the bloating.  You might want to add some juicing to your diet too to keep things "moving".

You'll see the results soon :)
i am really getting frustrated!

i am not coming from a vegan diet- before the raw, my diet was healthful but not unprocessed.

my skin does not look better- it looks worse, but i am told that that is because i am eliminating toxicity through my skin.
yeah, i got a couple of nasty zits the first few days i was going gluten-free vegan but they're dried up now and my skin looks better in general.  i sweat alot more than the average person, so i believe i eliminate alot of waste and toxins that way and it gets it out of my system more quickly.   it takes some people longer for a change to come about, even up to 6 weeks sometimes before you can feel the full effects of a healthier diet low in processed foods.  i understand your frustration, but just try to hang in there a while longer and see if you start feeling/looking more well.
don't listen to that trash about adding protein. you don't need it and the excess is what forms tumors over time.

are you only changing your diet for quick weight loss and skin care? don't be so trite. health is what you should be aiming for. the diet that you are eating now is a perfect, healthy diet (see the China Study). you are doing nothing wrong, and the only reason you might think that you are is your preconceived notion of health as told by Suzanne Summers et al. zits are not unhealthy.

and what the hell is "unhealthy tissue"? what does "amazing benefits" even mean to you? does it have a scientific definition? stop reading diet books and start reading case studies.
