high school reunion

Quote  |  Reply
Well, I started losing weight to feel better and look better and this upcoming reunion should keep me going, but I'm sooo nervous about the reunion.  I'm single, overweight and don't have a fab career.  I have 5 months to go.  Anyone gone to theirs???

I've got mine coming up this summer (30th), one of my motivations to lose the weight.  My husband and I went to his last summer and it was actually fun!  Some people looked GREAT, however some looked pretty bad, so I wouldn't worry too much.  Five months is enough time to really get healthy and feel good about yourself!
If you cant change your job, change your goals/hobbies.

For New Years, instead of the typical "eat better, work out more" goal, which I was already doing, I went for other goals like "walk 1000 Miles in 2007," "Wear more hats," "Visit places that start with every letter of the alphabet."

Then when people ask you "sooo... What do you do?" you can say " oh well I work for this, but in my spare time I travel/ walk. wear hats/ whatever whatever"

You can also volunteer at different places, that might give you something cool to talk about to!

I have my ten year reunion coming up this summer, actually I am in charge of it.  I am the one that has to hunt down all the missing members of our class, get everything organized, run the committee meetings, etc.

I too would like to lose some weight before the actual reunion, but I am on my way, down 6 pounds in 11 days.  I have already seen quite a few of my classmates and it seems that everyone has lost weight, that is part of my motivation because I have gained weight.

As far as the career goes, most people don't have a "fab career."  We all do what we can, yes a few people here and there are making lots of money, but chances are most people won't even ask.

What matters is that you are confident in who you are.  Are you a good person?  That matters the most.  Being friendly and quick to offer a smile goes a long way.  The people who were once the "popular" kids in high school blend in with the rest now.  You might even find it easier to talk to people now with some life experience under your belt, everyone is on a more level playing field.

And who knows, you have plenty of time to improve on your self-esteem before then.  You are on the right track for losing weight and that may be the boost you need.  Keep your head up and value yourself a little more!
I'm pretty self confident in most arenas, but this one is different.  They used to make me feel like garbage.  I know I';m a great person, wonderful mom, I have interests, but I'm sure the interests would be waaay dif from any of thiers.  I'm really hoping it isn't clicky.  And I have no one to take with me.  uugh
My experience with reunions has been that it is a whole different ballgame then it was in HS.  The people who used to be the "cool" people seem to be rather worn out and others have just blossomed.

Don't be so hard on yourself!  I can gaurantee that others are just as nervous as you are.  As I said before, just use this time to get healthy and as you do, your self esteem will get healthier as well.  You have just as much to offer as everyone else who will be there!!

And don't look at yourself as different-just unique!  Who wants a world full of people with all of the same interests!!
I went to my 10 year reunion a year and a half ago. I was a nervous wreck!!! We had a really small class as in like 33 people and probably half of us showed up at it. At the very last minute I almost changed my mind and didn't go but I had promised a friend of mine from school that I would go, (her husband was out of town and I was single at the time) so I went and I had the BEST time. I didn't come home until 6:30 the next morning!! We just all hung out together all night. I am so glad I didn't miss it and everyone looked different. Some were bigger, some were smaller, everyone had lots of stories. I think you should go...and I second the opinion of taking up some new hobbies or volunteering. Plus it'll make you feel good about yourself and that's more important then what other people think about you anyway!
you guys are all correct!  Thank you very much!!!
