I am training to do the 5k run. Right now I run 3 mins./ walk 2 mins. But I do it in 34 mins now so i'm not to slow anymore. I want to start doing HIIT. Is it ok to do after I run since I am already warmed up? I know you shouldn't to HIIT on the same day you weight lift but what about same day as cardio? I only take 1 day off of running so I don't just want to do HIIT on one day? Any suggestions?
I was always under the impression that when you do HIIT it IS your cardio. I can't imagine trying to do HIIT after a regular run, my body is too worn out. I can't imagine doing it and then doing a regular run, because it should wipe you completely out.
Karozel is right here. HIIT is your cardio. I attempted a HIIT and then a regualr run once.......no it doesnt work. If you are truely doing HIIT right, then its def. your cardio for the day.
I do it as part of my cardio. Warm up with a run for 10 min, HIIT for 10 min, then I just run until I'm done! During the week I have to finish in 38 min because of doing it over lunch hour, but the weekends I could run and run all day!
You could do a circuit! The best thing about these is that you can do it at ur house if you have stairs.
This one is best cos it is really simple... just do each one for a minute and repeat the circuit 5-6 times for a 30 min workout.
1) star jumps
2)jumping squats - (jump in the air and then touch the floor with your fingers, bending into a squat nice and controlled - great for legs and butt)
3) jog on spot
4)step up and down on bottom stair - nice and quick
5) hop with both feet up 4 steps and run back down.. or just run up and down.
REPEAT! this is great for fitness and an alternative to just running.. it can be considered HIIT if you push yourself... levae 1 min rest between each set and no slacking. It is also quite fun with someone else spotting you.
