Hiking in LA!

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here hikes in the LA area. I am not too familiar with the local trails. Let me know if you are heading out or if you just want to share a good trail:)

Thanks!

I hike up Runyon Canyon everyday with my dog... its pretty good with several different routes you can take. Its in Hollywood at the top of Fuller Ave just north of Franklin Street. I go everyday around 3pm. Hope that is helpful.

I live in Port Hueneme, North of LA.  We have a couple trails here that I constantly hike up, right next to the PCH.  The main one is the Chumash Trail and there is also Laguna Peak.  LP is fairly boring being basicly a road up a hill.  Chumash is MUCH more challenging.  Chumash goes pretty much strait up for half the trip and levels out for the other in a winding path.  It goes on for about a 5 mile hike.  These are in the Mugu State Park areas right next to the Point Mugu Naval Station on the PCH.

Hi Annie,

I guess you posted this quite a while ago, so I don't know if you are still watching it for replies...

I Live in west LA near where the 10 and 405 meet...

There are tons of great hikes in the hills around here. Some I have explored, many I haven't. Lately I've been hiking up Farmer's fire road in Sullivan canyon.

It's a great tree lined path that starts in the hills above Sunset Blvd. and goes all the way to Mullholand.  I haven't hiked up that far yet, but I'm using it as motivation to go a little further each time and someday make it all the way to the old Nike Missile site on Mullholand on top of Mount San Vicente.  From there you can hike back down several other roads if you want.

These trails are popular with hikers and mountain bikers, so you can find info in them by googling them. Try googleing

"kenter fire road"

"mandeville canyon fire road"

There are also some great trails that start in temescal gateway park: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=temescal+gatewa y+park

There's a stream and small waterfall up there, and you can hike all the way to encino if you want to, with incredible ocean views.

Let me know if you want some more ideas...

Good luck!
