Am not certain PE Obama has even offered the job, at this point.

If Bill can not be vetted, she will have to say she doesn't want the job, #1.

And regarding leaks, also

LOL

@22

Good to see that Obama recognizes the leaks as a serious problem, though it sucks for them that they didn't put the lock down on the leaking before the one about Clinton got out.

It's like I said, the position makes almost no sense for her, because she's got a bug up her butt for domestic issues not foriegn, so she'd be slogging it out for Obama for eight years so that by the time she's pushing 70 she might have a second shot at potus?

Yeah right. If you thought sexism against HRC was bad, or the ageism against McCain was bad... good luck finding support for an old woman to be able to run for potus, especially since women aren't allowed to age as gracefully as men in this country.

Anyway, I just can't see why she'd do it unless there was a huge carrot that nobody yet knows about.

I agree with your analysis -- since when has she ever been a foreign policy expert?  During the campaign, her assertions (brokering Bosnian peace) became embarrassments.  So I didn't 'get it' about why he would want her in that job or why she would want the job either.

So I'm not convinved that any aspect of the story is true.

But even if it were true, I'm not convinced that Bill's financial situation and that of his foundation wouldn't cause a problem for her (conflicts of interest galore)

That's why I said put her on the supreme court.  She is a lawyer, and a good one from what I've read.  She would have a far-reaching influence on the country and be the first ex-first lady to be a Supreme Court Justice.

I've heard that she's not interested in joining SCOTUS because they don't hear enough cases to keep her busy.

edit to add: if she were appointed to the Court, she may have to recuse herself from cases because of Bill's financial conflicts of interest too. I thought she liked being a senator from the great state of new york!

Obama better get his transition team in check, because they're going to make him look sloppy. They need to get their head back into the leak-proof election mindset they were in a month ago.

I was thinking this just as I read that Clinton, supposedly, has accepted the SoS position - according to "two confidants."  This in addition to the speculation about the treasury and commerce secretaries.

WTH?  They're not exactly "confidants" if they go talking to every newspaper that will talk to them a full week before the official announcement.

For the "machine" reputation Obama's transition team has, there sure are a lot of unnamed sources with loose lips.  (Or maybe it's a clever ruse and everyone will be blind sided with a completely different announcement?)

NPR has reported that she has accepted the appointment.

Edit:  accepted unofficially that is.  They expect the official announcement after T-Day.

Change you can believe in!

*sigh*

Let John Kerry be secretary of state.

Put Hillary on the Supreme Court.

(do you realize how critically important it is for a diplomat to know for certain whether she is under sniper fire? Tongue out )

I would love for Hillary to be put on the Supreme Court.

Interesting.  What qualifications does Hillary have to be on the Supreme Court? What has she done in her legal career to merit such an appointment?

She's never been on the bench so she has made no legal decisions.  Can you provide any kind of article or legal opinion that she has written?

What foreign affairs experince does she have to qualify her for SecState? This is almost as funny as asking Palin to run as your VP! Well, not funny in the fact that the election is over and now we have to take all the medicine Obama gives us!

Meh. More experience than Condy had when she was appointed. Her husband has a lot of foreign connections. That probably won't hurt.

Come to that Bush 41 was the head of the CIA - was he ever elected to office?

edit:  before being VP, I mean...

I dont know that she does have any experience for Secretary of State.  Nor was that my question.  I was more curious about her qualifications as Supreme Court Judge as I've heard that being bandied about quite a bit and never understood how she could be qualified.

And what exactly do you mean by Palin running as my VP?  I'm not John McCain.

Granted, she can't see Russia from her backyard and isn't manning civil defense watchtowers, but she's had various interactions with numerous heads of state, and I'd venture to say forged quite a few relationships.  It's not a post I would have thought of for her, although she could probably do it well enough, but I do think there are more suitable people for the position.

If true I'm guessing that Obama is trying to show his willingness to "heal divides" and all that.  Eh - he probably could have done it better, but I guess we'll see, won't we?

George H W Bush was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1966.

She has an extensive and distinguished law background - have you read any bios of her?  (Even the Wiki one has a nice summary.)

on edit:  It may not be enough to be qualified to be on the SCOTUS, but I don't think the COTUS requires a nominee to actually have experience as a judge.

Wonderful.

I'm sure there are thousands and thousands of attorneys who have an "extensive and distinguished law background".

I don't think that makes them qualified for the Supreme Court either.

What are the qualification requirements for a SCOTUS Judge?
