hip pain while running
I deviated from my typical 6-8 mile run and pushed out two 9 mile runs with a day break in between. Ever since then though my hip has been hurting me and when I tried to run I could only hobble. I walked 8.5 miles this morning but I couldn't help feeling gypt out of a good workout and it took me so long to complete it--it drove me mad!
Anyone experience this type of injury and have any idea on how long it'll take to recover?
are you talking about the muscles around your hip? if so, it'll take a few days before it completely goes away. i find that stretching that area reaally really helps.
AHHHHHHHH just rest. I hurt my hip over a month ago, and I STILL can't run. I definately couldn't walk that much, though, and it started hurting in the middle of my run, and it's probably not the same hurt... but still. CAREFUL! I'd hate for anyone else to go through it!! i'm going crazy! :-P
You should go see a dr. That way you and dr. can determine the best method of treatment. If you are weary of using rxs to get rid of pain, you don't have to get a prescription but at least you will know what you are dealing with. I speak from experience. I let a hip problem go unchecked and turns out it was simple bursitis that would have been more easily treated had I went when it first happened. Now I go every few months to get a steroid shot in the hip, because it has escalated.
Good luck. I agree with rmgarcia, it sucks if you don't be careful.
boo.. okay thanks guys, it's just so frustrating when this type of thing happens!
Did you ever find out what happened? I am experiencing the same exact problem. I tried to push out my running to 4 miles from my standard 2 miles, and from then on, I cannot run for about a month now. I experience no pain walking, but only during running. Thanks!
running 9 miles back to back is pretty tough stuff! You've probably irritated your ITB band. Give it a couple of days, and if it persists, check out the internet for some recommended treatments. Most of them involve some form of tortute with a foam roller :-)
