Just hit a plateau...help
ive been eating 1200 calories a day for the last 3 months and have been losing about 2 lbs per week the entire time. then, about 5 days ago, it starting going up. i havent changed the foods ive been eating or my jogging routine. i dont know whats going on.
im afraid to reduce my calories, because i heard your not suppose to go below 1200, and im in the middle of training for a half marathon, so i get enough cardio. if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
Increase your calories. You simply aren't eating enough if you are eating only 1200 cals and training for a (half) marathon.
If you are training for a half marathon, I wouldn't worry about your weight. Try to focus on one goal at time. I am not an endurance athlete, but I have read that sometimes they will gain weight when training for an event. After the event, you could try less cardio, and more resistance training.
I am not a doctor but your weight gain could be just be the muscles you are building while training. If you are unsure, talk to your doctor about your calorie intake...if you are too low your body will go into starvation mode. You can always try changing up your diet...try different foods and recipes. It makes the diet more fun if nothing else. Good luck and dont fret...ups and downs are a natural part of things.
Try gradually increasing your calories, lets say 200 calories, thats just adding a light protein shake to your diet. Like others said you may be burning more than you think and could be causing a more than 1000 cal deficit which is a no no.
Ok, this problem I know ALOT about. Just four days ago I broke my 8 weeks plateau...yes 8 weeks of the same weight that would neither go up or down. I had to zig-zag my calorie intake, and change my work out routine. I was doing the very same thing you are before I hit my plateau. On the days I was not weight lifting and jogging, I only ate 13-1400. On the days where I was kicking my own butt, I ate 16-1800 and drank nothing but water and a cup of coffee. All of a sudden 3 lbs. came off...then 2 more and 2 more, so it works and I was SCARED to do it. Another thing I noticed was fruits, I had to cut back and replace half of my fruit intake with veggies (not that I minded!) and I added a protein supplement.
Try jogging with 2 lb. hand weights for a total body work out, that will surely shock your body into burning fat without killing you.
Good luck and remember, don't freak out!
I used to be in Cross Country and that can happen. You will gain some weight because muscle weighs more than fat. Since you are training for a marathon, the muscles in your legs are probably looking a lot better. Take a lot in a full length mirror. I'm sure by now, you have great legs from all the jogging and training you have been doing. That's what happened to me and once I looked in the mirror and saw my legs, I realized that's where the extra weight is. Good luck!
I'm kinda the same but it's only been one week since I haven't lost any thing but I generally lose weight rather easily (until I get to 11 stone...) I have been 166lbs for AGGGGES!! or so it seems... I've tried upping my calories but I'm not sure if that works and it's so scary because it feels like you're going to gain :'(
Good luck with your running, I wish I could run! xx
YOu have to change your routine sometimes to lose weight. Your body is getting used to your routine. Trick it! Change the time you jog. Or add a little more calories and then go back.
