I've been hitting the gym for about 4 1/2 weeks now. I'm going 3 times a week and walking with my son and biking on the off days. I've cut my cals down to about 1200-1450. I've hit the plateau and my question is do I need to change something up or do I just keep doing what I'm doing and everything will adjust accordingly? I know that I'm also building muscle, and I know that is weighs more than fat. I can feel myself getting stronger and see the changes I just wanted to know what next. Thanks!
You should be losing weight consistently, 1 - 2 pounds a week.
1) If your sodium intake is high you'll register 2 or 3 pounds that's just water weight.
2) Are you sure you're really only eating 1200-1450 calories? Its easy to go over, especially in the first months of dieting.
I've been pretty OCD about logging everything that I put in my mouth on this site. And if I'm not 100% about a weight or portion size I'll judge over just to be sure. I'll see what happens next week. Thanks!
From random sources I've learned that after about a month of doing the same thing your body gets used to it, which can cause the plateau. Switch up the weight lifting, try different machines or dumbbells and barbells they help balance your body out, and the cardio change that up a bit too. Also, if you're eating about the same things every day, its the same with the exercise. Switch up your food, you don't just get tired of it your body does too. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the advice Triggy. I hate eating the same thing everyday so that's definitely not it! But you're right about the gym stuff. I do tend to do the same stuff. I'll do it for different periods of time, does that count!? lol. I hate the stationary bike so I stick to mainly the elliptical and the treadmill. Ehh I'll try ot shake it up a bit. Thanks!
No matter what you do you will plateau. Different things shift you off. Sometimes it is even moving back to maintanance for a week and then cutting back down. It is strange but normal.
On the other hand, why not try tracking bust, waist and hip size. Sometimes when the numbers aren't moving on the scale you'll find that you are losing inches especially if you are going to the gym and building muscle.
I find tracking this keeps me motivated.
It's funny that you bring that up because I was looking at myself lastnight and I was like, I should have taken measurements before I started. Maybe I'll start now! Thanks
Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
