To answer some questions from the other thread: this challenge (as stated from the beginning) is a total pounds lost challenge. I know that makes it difficult for people with less weight to lose to be the "winner", but over Christmas holidays, with all the temptations we're facing --it might be anybody's game. I feel that losing ANY weight at all over the holidays will be a victory for most of us.

I hope that this challenge will be used for each individual to work on their own goals simultaneously (% body fat etc.).

A reminder that I won't be posting our weight loss along the way, only at the end, but I will be giving everyone general updates on how everyone is doing (how tough your competition is).

You can send me your weigh-ins on whatever day you like, but I know most people weigh on Friday or Saturday. If I don't hear from you by about Monday of each new week, expect an e-mail. I'll be keeping tabs.

How is everyone doing? The Thanksgiving countdown is upon us. A good head start going into it will help. Get some extra exercise and stay strong!

I just wanted to post and tell everyone Hello and to encourage everyone during the holidays.

BTW mctami-NO grandson yet.  But when he does I'll let ya know. I can't wait for the little one to be born.  His original due date was Nov 20-so any day now.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone! Best of luck making it through the holidays a smaller person!

I have to have my weight lost by early March so if I don't lose during the holidays, I'm afraid I can't lose much until after June! I have to be able to alter my wedding dress in time for a late May wedding ^_^.

Feel free to add me as a friend!

Hi back! And I want everyone to feel free to message me, each other, or post here with any problems or insights they have.

Use your journal, and let's read each other's. A lot of you said in your messages to me that you wanted to join for the support. Let's support each other.

We're a team.

Hi back everyone!  Remeber moderation & portion control are the keys to weight loss. I know it is easier said than done but we CAN do this!

GOOD LUCK! and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!Smile

Goodbye Halloween chocolates. Hello Thanksgiving! I cooked a couple of bean dishes this weekend and my husband and I will eat lightly Mon.-Wed. My plan is to enjoy Thanksgiving but to not go crazy. I'll go for the dressing but skip the mashed since I can eat those any other time of the year. Also, I'm making sure to get in an exercise class or a walk each day. Will take a walk on Thanksgiving morning before I start cooking.

Sounds sensible.

An important thing to keep in mind for anyone who  decides that they will indulge on Thanksgiving in some way --have a stopping place in mind. Whether it's one plate only, one plate and one normal-sized dessert, or two plates, whatever, just HAVE A PLANNED END.  The damage done from one large, fatty meal is nothing near the damage that can be done from an all day, non-stop eating fest.

Plan, plan, plan.

Hey, everyone.  What do you do for exercise?

I reside in a very rural community where winter is already making it's appearance.  There are no gyms or recreation facilities.  Currently, I am able to join in an aerobic class a young lady holds twice a week (evenings) at our local all grade school.  And walk 3.7k the other days of the week.  The classes will last until December 5th-then she plans to take a hiatus until after the new year. So unless I motivate myself during this break I wont maintain much of a loss.

Can you offer any suggestions as to types of exercise programs I can do at home?

Thanks everyone-and best of luck during this most wonderous time of year..

I like bellydancing videos. Several of them are geared to weight loss. It's so fun I don't feel like it's exercise --and a lot of hip shaking!

Hi People!  I'm holding my own.  I've stressed over the holiday menu for a couple of weeks now but since it's finalized and the shopping is done I'm much more relaxed.  There's only going to be 8 of us, you'd think I was feeding the queen or something!  Argh!  I hate being so obsessive from having some obscure ideal of what the holidays are suppose to be like.  I have to tell myself to just "breathe" sometimes.

Hey nanamoss!  I can sense you're getting pretty antsy waiting for that little boy of yours!  How wonderful!  BTW - I live "out in the sticks" myself.  This time of year when the fields are harvested the wind cuts like a knife so I stop my usual running/walking routines.

On the subject of exercise - I'm a big fan of workout videos.  I'm not coordinated enough for anything extremely choreographed, like dancing workouts, but love the ones that use dumbbells and stretch tubing.  Heck, I've even got a couple of walking videos.  I've got a treadmill but just hate using it since I'm so used to running outdoors.  I personally am going to work on simple things like push-ups, sit-ups/crunches, squats, and lunges every other day or so.  I'll use one of my videos for cardio a couple of times a week too if I feel I need to.

Just checking in to say Hi and to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Remember as Geniuswaitress said that it is important to have a plan for the big holiday meals if you plan on indulging.

Personally my plan is to make sure I eat lots of fresh veggies (both raw & those cooked without a lot of sauce etc) and to make sure I eat before the big meal. Plus getting in some form of exercise.

Happy Thanksgiving and Good Luck!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!  Hope your day is filled with happiness, family and of course turkey!!

Laughing

Have a happy Thanksgiving all of my American counterparts!

Don't eat too much, and if you do, make sure it's good for ya! Wink

Did everyone enjoy their Thanksgiving? I know I did. I feel great about how I ate too. I had some plain turkey and a nice big salad and I didn't even feel deprived. I hope everyone else had a good time and feels proud of their choices.

Happy Thanksgiving!!Laughing

How did everybody do? I ate less than I even planned to. I wasn't stuffed at all.

If anyone does feel like they went overboard and vastly overate, though, here are some important things to do:

Don't weigh yet.  I'm serious. Give it a couple of days. You may have gained some water weight and bloat, and maybe even a pound or two. If you are the oh-no-it's-all-over type, a higher weigh-in right now might send you into a depression. Get back on track, get hydrated, exercise, then weigh.

Don't stop. It's really easy to give up when you feel like you've blown it. You haven't.  Don't think of healthy eating as a diet--something you're either on or you're off. Health is a way of life. It has hills and valleys and cycles and changes. Don't use this as an excuse to continue a downhill slide.

Don't deprive. If you gorged yesterday, then the last thing you want to do is starve your body now. You mistreated it already, why torture it again? Get back into a normal eating pattern ASAP! Eat a normal, healthy breakfast today. Get back to whatever your healthy plan of choice is. If you need to compensate: exercise a little longer, take an extra walk, whatever. Do not starve your poor body.

I hope everyone feels good about their choices, but if anyone doesn't, please take the above to heart.

Happy Day After. Looking forward to weight updates.

hmmmm, I wined and dined to excess but it was awesome. All the food was acutally quite healthy in portions. I just had more than single servings!  But I did take a brisk 60 minute walk and I'm back on track today. But I'll wait to weigh-in as long as I canCry
well back up to 124, but i'm sure its mostly bloat and water weight....hopefully...haha
Hello all. I had a great Thanksgiving, and hope all of you did also. You have to love a holiday that serves up tasty and healthy Turkey, I used splenda in almost all receipes that called for sugar and even my husband didn't notice. It helped that my mother in law was recently diagnosis with diabetes everyone was willing to make low calorie substitutions for grandma. Everyone hang tough in the up coming month.

Hi everyone.  I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  I had a fabulous time visiting my husbands family and things went pretty well weight wise.  I gained a little (only 1 pound) which for me is great.  I usually gain that over the weekend anyway.  I didn't get any exercise in but I will increase my activity this week.  I'm still working toward my goal of 600 - 750 minutes of planned activity for the month of November so I need to get to work on that.

Good Luck everyone with the holiday parties/dinners during the coming month.

Hope everyone had a good holiday! seems like a bunch of you did well...

I'm feeling great lately, the scale is not budging, but I am increasing my mileage, I run 5 miles now!  I think I'm not eating enough now that I am buring more calories running, but I'm not sure I can up my calories, I'm full at 1400...any suggestions?
