any tips out there for exercising while on vacation? im going to try to walk as much as i can. take my mom's dog for a walk/run, use the gym at the hotel(s), do some push ups, etc.  i have some exercise bands that im planning on bringing. (i know, i know, not quite heavy dumb bells like im used to but better than nothing).

ill most likely be eating or partying. but to be perfectly honest i'll be in party mode, which means recovery mode (if you get what im saying Wink).

the honeymoon in hawaii will be easy enough to get exercise. but i'll have 2 weeks (& lots of traveling) of wedding stuff/parties before i get to hawaii. just want to stay in good enough shape for hawaii so i can do all that i want.

im planning on buying that book 'new rules for lifting' to keep me mentally motivated for when i get back. any other tips?

cheers

LOL. yeah i pretty much know that's what will happen, but just to give myself a little initial kick in the buns never hurts!

im definitely not going to watch what i eat as there are too many restaurants on my hit list with lots of fattening (& healthy) foods. so far i have about 14 to hit, those are not even the ones my friends want to take us to.

I say enjoy it and don't worry about exercise and calories! How often do you get to go on a trip like this? Just live it up for a couple weeks!

That is what I would do!
Yeah!  You're supposed to have a "down week" anyway, so consider this it!  Enjoy your vacation... take a break!  Don't worry about it until you get back!  You're not going to hurt yourself that much over the course of your vacation.

Have fun!!

The flex bands are great for traveling, the doorway pull-up bars also, I've seen dumbbells that you fill with water so they pack light(never tried them).  Aforementioned push-ups, you can do bench dips with a coffee table or counter-top and couch, never hurts to bring a few dvd's(aerobics or pilates) to work out in the room, assuming your room has a dvd player.

If you want a killer workout that takes next to no space, buy a jump rope.  Try three minutes of jump rope, a minute of push ups or sit ups and back to three minutes of jump rope.  See how many rotations you can do.

Enjoy yourself, and aim to just keep your current level of fitness intact -- don't worry about losing weight or making any significant fitness gains.  Stay active, which won't be a problem in Hawaii, pick your treats and enjoy them!  When you get home, definitely read the New Rules -- great book, great program.

I find that it helps me to think about if it's really going to taste better to eat three pieces of cake instead of one (for example). Vacation and partying is somewhat about the food, for sure, but also about the whole experience and the people you're with; are you going to remember your ridiculous karaoke performance or the drink you had that night? Definitely try all the things you want to taste so that you won't feel like you're missing out. Ask friends to split plates with you or pass your dish around to have everyone taste (which means less on your plate when it gets back to you). This is a relatively new way of thinking for me, too, and so far I've had pretty good success with it. Above all, HAVE FUN and ENJOY!!!

If your hotel has a fitness room, and if you can work in the time to use it a couple of times per week, do that.  Some time on the exercise bike or stairclimber, some time on the all-in-one weight machine, if you can.

If you can't, don't worry.  Two weeks going off the program is not a disaster.  You might pack on two or three pounds, but you're not going to make a lifelong habit of eating like that, right?
