Holy Cookies! Lesson learned...

Quote  |  Reply

So I went for an hour and 45 min bike ride today (lots of hills I might add...). Right before I left I felt a little hungry, but I decided to wait until I was done with my ride to eat. Bad idea. BY the time I got home I was Ravenous! LET THE BINGE BEGIN....

15 (yep, that's not a typo) fudge stripped cookies

2 rice cakes w/ peanut butter

5 dried apricots

4 cinnamon hearts

YIKES! Next time I'll just eat something before I go! I really should know better, I guess I'm a slow learner.

No responses :( Makes me feel even more like a fat cow! I'm the only one with no self control!
ahh, it happens to the best of us.  At least you learned your lesson and next time you'll know to eat first.  And think of it as just replenshing someof the calories you burned.
Another tip....

When you feel like that start with a huge bowl of veggies.
Then something with protien & fat (soy, milk cheese) 100 cals or so.

Then go for the cookies. 15 just wont fit.

:)

Thats all sugary stuff you ate so it will make you super hungry and will deepen or create a binge like reaction.
hey...i fried up stale tortillas in oil added some salt and cheese and ate it all with no excersize...so don't sweat it..you didn't do anything that will cause permanent damage...just get back on the horse!!! You can do it!!!!!!

Ahhh....you are so right. It's so hard for me to eat veggies when my blood sugar is on the floor. Maybe next time some oatmeal with a little brown sugar or fruit....filling and I get some quick energy.

Then 15 for sure won't fit !

:)

haha! I like that it wasn't just tortillas, but STALE tortillas. I hear you loud and clear!

yea...STALE...been in there for months and for some insane reason it sounded good to drown them in grease, salt and cheese...so go easy on yourself...when we do dumb things to our body, we have to forgive and move forward, oh and be nice to you....you actually got outside and did something healthy and fun!!! Good for you =)

Move over, you've got plenty of company.

Being a binge eater myself, I understand. I have done the same thing. I feel my hunger begin, oh but wait, I have to finish this or do that.....Then when I do actually eat, watch out! (Hey, I do this when I have to go to the bathroom, too! LOL I hope there are no lines when I get there.) Seriously, when I started dieting, I loved feeling the hunger pains. But I found I was setting myself up for a binge. And it is a fine line to eat when you're hungry and to be hungry and binge, where nothing is going to satisfy. So, now, I always drink a glass of water before I eat anything. I walk into the kitchen and get a glass of water then I start to figure out what to eat. The time it takes me to drink 12oz is enough time to get my composure back to prevent the binge. Also, it helps to have 100 calorie snacks on hand.

More importantly when you do binge, I know this is hard, but don't beat yourself up. You're human, we're human. If we're not compastionate to ourselves who will be? Just be thankful that you didn't binge yesterday and hopefully not tomorrow.

I was proud of myself for getting my ride in...but I have found since bumping up my trainng (I am training for a triathlon) I am having an even harder time losing weight...I guess it's not surprising since intense training makes you hungry as a buffalo! I know heavy training is not the best time for weight loss efforts, but I want to place well in this race! Very annoyed with my body fat at the moment.

I have been trying to lose weight for over a month now (granted the cookies didn't help...) with no luck. lack of exercise is definitely not the problem, I guess I am eating too much :(

ps- anything drowning in grease, salt, and cheese is ok by me....even if it is stale!

Good call. I will start using the water trick. I don't drink enough water anyway!

after reading your last post about training for the triathalon, it sounds like you need to bump up your portion sizes so that your eating more for breakfast, lunch and tea, and therefore won't be snacking inbetween meals, of if you do choose something filling yet low in calories. I guess with all the excercise your bodies getting its yearning for more food, so give it healthy stuff rather then the cookies. as a binge eater myself i completely understand the whole thing too, and how awful it makes you feel afterwards, but atleast you got some excercise in before hand, dont worry everyone slips up sometimes!

I feel like I slip all the time though! I don't think it's a lack of calories (I eat anywhere from 1800-2200). *Sigh* It's te plugging away that will win you the day. All I can do is keep on trying.

LOL...After reading your profile, yes, you should know better! :)  And you should also know that training for a triathalon is not really the best time to be lowering your calories to try and lose weight.

I Know! It's so true, I DO know better! Especially about the weight lose during intense training, but dang it, I want to place top 5 in my age group! Lighter= faster (up to a point). I am 5'5'' and 135 pounds, so it's not like I don't need to lose a couple. I would like to be at 120-125 race day.

lol, get those cookies out of your house!  If they're not there you can't eat them.  I feel for you though, it's tricky.

I run/elliptical for about 70-75 minutes (approx 7.5 miles) almost every night.  Usually an hour or two after I eat supper, so I'm fairly loaded up.  And then when I get home, I chug a lot of water (I don't know how much exactly, maybe half a litre?) and eat an apple and a little cheese or something.  If I still need more I will break out the vegetables.

Eat a banana or two before you go out.  That should give you enough energy for the ride so you aren't scrounging for anything when you get back home!
Its that same demonic voice that told me that stale tortillas are better fried up, hahaha...oh we do crazy things to sabotage ourselves sometimes huh? You gotta laugh!
