Holy Crap, WHOLE WHEAT PITA'S.........
ARE AMAZING! Damn! I loved it! Tonight I had some left of chicken cut and then microwaved, then I toasted the pita and simply stuffed it with chicken. YUM! It got me full too!
Can anyone tell me some good low calorie recipies to have with some pita bread? I've heard alot about hummus with them but they don't sell hummus around here. ):
You can make pita pizzas with them. Just put pizza sauce (or any good marinara), your choice of toppings and bake. Yum!

Yeah I heard of those before! I've been meaning to try a recipie I created(atleastI think I created). 1/4 Cup(30 calories) and then take a babybel light cheese wheel(50 calories) and then stick it in the oven! With the pita bread all together is 230 calories! You can keep it in the oven if you would like a chrunchy pizza.
Another idea is a calzone. Just cut the top off add cheese and sauce and then put it in the oven. Same thing as pizza but served as a calzone format!
Also keep in mind you can also put as many veggies in them to boost nutrional value! :)
If you've got a small food processor or hand-blender it's very easy to make Hummus. I find it makes a good Pitta filling with thickly sliced cucumber or, of course, you can cut the pitta into fingers and use to dip
My favourite Pitta pocked filling is some simply baked chicken breast, sliced and then dressed with some a tablespoon of yoghurt mixed with a teaspoon of pesto. Add some baby spinach leaves at the end.
These are also delicious. Can find them at Wal-Mart
I really like them with some good quality brie cheese. I usually put one serving of it on pita bread, fold it and microwave wrapped in paper towel for 5 seconds. Very delicious.

Nope don't got a food processor :o But I do have a blender. Do you think that will work as well? And yum that sounds great as well.

Brie Cheese? I have never heard of that kind of cheese before and I simply love cheese. And do you put it inside of the pita or do you simply fold it? I might try this out....:)

I use them for everything, hamburgers, toasted cheese any kind of sandwich. Good toasted with eggs.

Seriously? It is a pretty common cheese. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brie I used to buy Presidents choice brand, until I tried some double brie from Trader Joes. No comparison. I also tried one imported from France officially when it was in Costco. It was expensive, but so worth it!
I simply fold it.
I know this may sound weird, but I LOVE them fillled with scrambled eggs and 1 or 2 tablespoons of feta. MMMM.
Hehe they are tasty!
I second the pizzas, very quick and easy and yum.
I like them filled with hummus and salads like rocket or spinach, and also if you toast it a bit so it opens, then spread a bit of PB inside, and put some slices of cheese in, then toast again so the cheese melts, heaven in a pitta.
And sweet fillings too! PB and banana slices, nutella and fresh apricots... get creative!
Fat free cottage cheese and some spinach/sprouts and sliced tomatoes and dried dill is really good in pita bread.
Grilled or poached leftover shrimp or fish are nice mixed with veggies in pita too.
If you do like hummous you might like baba ghanoush which is a roasted eggplant dip that you eat like hummous. Here is a recipe for it, you might need to get the tahini in a specialty store http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sues-Baba-Ghanou sh/Detail.aspx?prop31=2
Leftover bits of curry are really good in pita bread if the curry isn't too runny.
It is very easy to make your own hummus, just type the word into google and you'll find lots of recipes for it.
Bon Appetit!
Oat Bran Pita Pockets are simply GREAT! Only 60 calories!
Joseph's Flax Oat Bran Pita Bread
Joseph's Flax Oat Bran and Whole Wheat Flour Pita Bread has a super long name, trying to fit every "healthy part" of its ingredient list into that header. In essence this is a low carb, no trans fat, high omega-3 version of pita bread for wraps and dips.I eat a fair number of pita breads and wraps in my weekly menu. You need to be aware up front that this is a little "floppier" than most standard pita breads. It does still have a reasonable texture, but it doesn't have the firmness that some others have. For most applications this really doesn't matter much. You're holding the bread / sandwich in your hand anyway as you eat it.
The flavor is reasonably fine. I mean, what does pita bread really taste like? :) It has a mild, bready flavor.
The benefit here is in the nutrition. For a given pita, there is 8g of carbs - but you get a whole 4g of fiber here! So there's only 4g of net carbs, plus you get 4g of great fiber into your system.
On the fat side, you're in great shape here. There are only 2g of fat, with no saturated fat and no trans fats.
There's also 6g of protein - always a nice thing!
There are all sorts of great ideas for things to do with a wrap.
First, you can make an egg salad wrap. Egg salad is super fast to make, especially if you have one of those microwave egg boilers. Mix it up, wrap it in the wrap, add some lettuce if you want, and enjoy!
Tuna is another great thing to use with wraps. Cans of tuna keep indefinitely on your shelf. Mix up some tuna with some mayo or oil, maybe add in some olives or capers, and you're all set! A perfect snack or lunch.
Another thing I like to use pita with is hummis. Hummis has fiber and protein in it - and is tasty! If you put some hummis into a ramekin, scoop out portions with the pita bread, it's quite "comfort food" and relaxing. Perfect with a glass of wine.
In general pita bread is a great low-carb substitute for bread - and also for chips. Highly recommended for anyone on a healthy eating way of life!
