Make a not-too-sweet, rich apple butter spread that goes perfectly on a toasted English muffin or served over pork chops or chicken. Can be made sweeter by doubling the honey and brown sugar

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Apple Butter

1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
10 apples,medium, peeled, cored, and cut into large chunks

Recipe Directions for Homemade Apple Butter

  1. Combine all ingredients in a 5-quart electric slow cooker.

  2. Cover and cook on low 10 hours or until apples are very tender.

  3. With an immersion blender, puree the apples in the slow cooker, until nice and smooth.

  4. Cook, uncovered, on high 1 1/2 hours or until mixture is thick, stirring occasionally.

  5. Spoon into a bowl; cover and chill up to a week.
