homemade peanut butter
so my grandpa was in town recently and he was telling me about how he makes peanut butter by hand by just putting peanuts in the food processor. i tried doing this this morning and it worked so good! and the taste is excellent. i used honey roasted peanuts, but i think im going to try a different kind next time. have any of you done this before? i was also thinking about making some almond butter...mmm. i love peanut butter! and this has no added fat:)))
BTW, peanut butter is still loaded with fat, even without the "added" fat :)
Yes, fat but good fat. In moderation good for you.
This sounds like a good idea, except expensive! I know from shopping around that buying whole peanuts is a lot more expensive than buying a jar of peanut butter ready made. Does it taste better than store bought peanut butter?
well i worked it out and got the cheap peanuts, with 9 servings for $1.50. i think regular peanut butter is right around the same price/serving. but honestly i don't know. but yes! it is so delish. i have to cut myself off. it is very creamy with little pieces of peanuts in it. it is a unique texture but i am a big fan.
and peanuts have healthy fat in them, which is necessary in a diet. well not a diet persay, but like what you eat daily.
wouldn't doing that reduce the calories to about 50 per tablespoon, too?
also where can you buy a food processor anyway? and for how much?
I've made almond, cashew, and peanut butter. They are all good, plus it's a nice way to control the fat and know what's really in your nut butters. I think they taste so much better than store bought too!
Can you use raw or boiled nuts? What about nuts with no salt? Does that taste ok? I am trying to find a lower calorie alternative that tastes decent and does not empty my bank account.
Just nuts? Don't you need to add some sort of liquid to make it the "butter" texture?
i dont know where we got our food processor, but i imagine you can buy one at like target or kohls or something like that...
and you would think that you would need to add a liquid, but the natural fat from the nuts actually makes it creamy. i think you can use any kind of nut (unsalted, salted, boiled...) but it will probably affect the texture. my grandpa said that he adds cinnamon for extra flavor... im going to try that next time
All I ended up with was some peanut dust.
