I created this sauce years ago and just never wrote it down. I watched my mom make sauces for years and then came up with this when I was trying to lose weight. It is a great sauce, with a little sweet/spicy kick. It makes a lot of sauce, but it freezes beautifully.

Recipe Ingredients for Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

2 tbsps olive oil
1 cup peppers, sliced thin
1/2 large onion, sliced thin
60 ounce tomato sauce
60 ounce tomatoes, diced
12 ounce tomato paste
1/2 cup spaghetti seasoning
1/4 ounce basil, dried
1/4 ounce oregano, dried
1 tbsp red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup Splenda
1 1/2 cups red wine, preferably Marsala
6 cloves of garlic, or more to taste

Recipe Directions for Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

  1. Pour olive oil into a stockpot and turn heat on medium-high. Add in the onions, peppers and garlic and saute until onions are clear.

  2. Add in all the cans of tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomato paste and wine. Stir all together.

  3. Add all dry seasonings including splenda and stir all together.

  4. Cook for 2-3 hours over low heat stirring occassionally until the liquid is reduced by 1/3.
