Just a quick peek in....  I will be back on later....

BUT.....

I have been in search of some simple craft projects that I don't have to go out and buy anything for.

Glynn came home with an "Earth Day" project for school.  It is called "Trash to Treasure".  He is to take recyclable stuff and create something with it.  The kind of stuff that I am finding is asking for Pipe Cleaners or Construction Paper or Fabric Swatches or Wallpaper Samples.  Stuff that I don't have on a daily basis.  And I don't want to go out and BUY something to use for a project that is supposed to be using recycled stuff.

Any ideas?  Quick.  Easy.  Simple.

Thanks

What came to mind is paper plates, plastic spoons, forks or knives, empty paper towel roll or toilet paper, empty cans might be dangerous - but you could make a snowman, robot or person?

It's been so long since I did crafts with my son - have fun!  I know this will be a challenge, but you are so creative.

After thought - fabric swatches - do you have anything colorful that is old you can cut up?

i used to get free wallpaper samples from home depot and a local paint store for daycare... maybe yu can get some fabric samples from walmart or a fabric store.  i hope that helps

I have been saving stuff for this project.  You know things like milk jugs, soup cans, Quaker Oats box, paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, egg crate, etc.  My hubby came in and ask why I was saving this stuff.

He looked at the pile and automatically saw a robot.  He went out to the garage with a roll of wire.  I handed the project over to him.  I just didn't see a robot in that trash.

So basically, I already had the stuff for Glynn's Homework.  We didn't have to go out and buy anything for this.  My brain just wasn't mechanical enough to see the Treasure in the Trash.

Thanks anyway for your help anyway.

We finally finished with Glynn's "Trash to Treasure" project for school.  We ended up making a robot puppet and 2 coin banks.  I forgot to take pictures.  They were just too cute.

Items that make up the Banks.

  • NesQuik Milk Mix Container (2)
  • Scrap material (Thomas the Train design)
  • Scrap material (Cinderella design)
  • Glue
  • Tape

Items that make up the Robot Puppet.

  • Milk Jug  (head)
  • Dairy Queen French Fry Bag  (mouth)
  • Dora Fruit Snacks Box  (eyes)
  • Quaker Oats Box  (body)
  • Egg Crate Cups  (arms)
  • Toilet Paper Rolls  (legs)
  • Construction Paper  (traced Glynn’s hands)
  • Construction Paper  (traced Glynn’s feet)
  • Cable Ties
  • Glue

OK - by popular request....

I just posted the pictures of the "Trash to Treasure" projects in my profile's gallery.
