Honda Insight? Anyone have one?

Quote  |  Reply

Hubby wants to get a new car and thinks the Honda Insight might be it.  Just wondering if anyone has one and if so, what they think of it.  Colors, options, warranty, repairs, etc.  All comments welcome.  Thanks!

Dont have the Insight but have the CR-V and love it!  I've had other Honda cars and they are great.  ALso have a Honda motorcycle -Goldwing - and it's great, too.  Honda make a good, reliable, trouble-free product.

i went car shopping last weekend with a friend (she's buying, not me) and i had a chance to get a good look at the insight.  it's pretty appealing.  my only gripe is this: why does it have to look so much like the prius?  is there really no other way to design a hybrid?

but i don't think the fit-and-finish of the lower-end hondas is up to par with mazda.

i'm also not convinced that a hybrid is the best way to go.  depends what kind of driving you're doing, of course, but many of the small imports (have you looked at the fit?  it's pretty cool!) get phenomenal mileage without being hybrids, and i'm inclined to wait for the gas-free technology to get established.

Prius's are better!!! :D Hahah

Ok I know nothing about the Insight, except that the new ones look EXACTLY like a Prius.

I drive a Prius and I love it :] Hybrids get really good mileage overall, even when I'm being little miss speed racer I still get almost 40 mpg. I've been accelerating slower and stuff lately and my milage is around 42.5 right now. My dad has one too and I think he regularly gets around 45-46.

they are SUPER spacious! You can easily fit 5 people in it without being squished. The seats fold forward so you can haul a lot of stuff.... when my parents were moving from a huge house to a tiny house I had to help them take a LOT Of stuff to the Goodwill.. it is AMAZING how much stuff I could shove in that car! haha.  probably at least 10 or 12 of those big black garbage bags stuffed full.

and if you run out of gas you can still drive a few miles to the gas station ;] Oh and in other countries where they sell the prius there's a button where you can manually switch to electric only, but of course they don't have that option in the US. but, they have the spot for the button, and the wiring... the button just isnt' there! It's nuts. There are online tutorials of how to install the button yourself. That would be pretty sweet, but it probably voids all warranty's hehe.

SO if the Insight is pretty similar to the Prius (besides just looking exactly like it...) then it's a pretty sweet car.

We bought our Honda Insight back in 2001 - we still have it and have no plans to get rid of it!  The new ones are bigger, and therefore more practical (ours is a 2-seater), but I don't think that the technology has changed significantly.  If I were in the market, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one!

I used to SWEAR to anyone who would listen that I would only buy American and that everyone else should do the same...then I was given a 1991 honda civic and the damn thing wouldn't die. It literally only required gas and oil. I drove the crap outta that thing for 3 years before i moved on to ANOTHER Honda. While my mom's Explorer is in and out of the shop for all SORTS of things, my cute accord laughs in its face.

Seriously, get a Honda.

ps - I sold my 91 honda, which needed to be TOWED away for $500 last month. I repeat, get a honda!
