HONESTLY! OUTTER THIGH FAT!!! what to do?!
I need advice from someone lean and lovely.
I'm 26 yrs old, 5'0 and am at the highest weight I have ever been standing at 128 lbs. I have never been over 116lbs. So I have gone back to the gym and am going everyday at my lunch hour.
My biggest challenge is that I am pear shaped and all the weight is sitting around the upper thigh and I am having one heck of a time working it down. Right now I look unproportional and my curves are a little too curvy.
Can anyone recommend a good tactic to beat the thigh meat?!
I used to do a lot of cardio and honestly yes they got smaller but FLABBIER!
Numerous people have told me to hit the weights so I recently started The New Rules of Lifting For Women. Dead lifts, squats, lunges, step-ups are all involved and hopefully will do the job. I carry the fat in the same exact place and am working on the same exact problem...
Good Luck!

Good answer! Hit the weights, lady. It burns FAT faster than cardio and helps with the #1 thing you should be looking at: your diet.
Wow, arianap! If that's you in your profile pic, then you carry 128 lbs quite nicely for someone who is 5'!!! I bet the guys like those curves.
I agree with the other two posts; hit the weights and watch your diet. My guess is that if you do a little toning, you'll see some great results.
Well to be honest in the profile picture I was topping at about 115-116 lbs, so I have gained a tad around the thigh section, hence my frustration with this weight kaufmkk. But thanks for the kindness all the same.
And thank you to everyone for your advice!!![]()
A little late in replying, but most gyms have weight machines designed just to tone your thighs. I use them all the time because I have really fat inner thighs, but if you use leg abduction machines (http://www.personaltrainingprograms.com/exerc ises/search-ex_eng.asp?ex=230) it should really help. I usually try to use them every day and alternate one day setting the weights really high and just doing a few repititions, and the next day doing a lot of repititions with a lighter weight. Also, eat a lot of protein. It's pretty much impossible to lose thigh weight unless you stick to a super lean diet. Good luck!
I think there are a few that target your outer thighs. One is squats with your feet together instead of shoulder width apart. I think this is supposed to work your outer thighs, at least it does for me unless I'm doing it wrong.
The other kick @ss one is where you lay on your right side with your legs straigt. then you put a 5-10 pound weight in your right hand laying over your thigh, then lift your leg for a bunch of reps. then switch sides.
I think after doing that I will lift my knee and then put it straigt again, so it looks like I am pulling my knee into my chest and then putting it straight back down again.
Sorry, they are hard to explain but they work!
I'd go for compound movements like squats and lunges before I'd recommend those adductor/abductor machines. The compound movements will work more muscles (including the muscles in your thighs and glutes) and burn more calories than those machines. I can say from experience that I didn't see results until I made the switch from those machines to free weights and it was only a matter of weeks before things started to shape up. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck from squats, lunges, and deadlifts - that's the way I've experienced it.
Oh, and watch your calories of course if you're trying to lose that fat. :)
Working the muscles in a particular area will not cause fat to be lost from that area.
I heard a new metaphor for that the other day - "trying to spot reduce is like sticking a bucket into a swimming pool and trying to get the water out of just one corner..."
I am familiar with the abductor machines and use them, the stair climber, leg press, etc... I suppose I am looking for the best bang for my buck since I only have 20-30 minutes at my lunch break everyday to go to my gym.
P.S. Love the metaphor!
Thank you to all who have replied, really good advice!
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
